[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This picture of a juvenile Peregrine taken during a nest control is dedicated to all the people worldwide engaged like me in the survey and protection of Birds of prey and owls.

This note is the abstract of a paper published last year pointing out the positive population trend in Luxembourg

Regulus Wissenschaftliche Berichte Nr 21, 2006

Abstract: The comeback of the Peregine Falco peregrinus as a breeding bird to Luxembourg
by Conzemius Tom
The population of the Peregrine in the 19th and early 20th century is estimated at about 10 pairs. Last breeding occurred in 1960 with 3 pairs. In 1964 no Peregrine was found anymore until its comeback in 1998 when 3 pairs were breeding again in Luxembourg.
Since 1998 the numbers are steadily increasing reaching 14 territories with 8 breeding pairs in 2005. 1 pair is breeding since 1998 on a highway bridge, one pair occupied a schist quarry for 2 years, and all others are breeding in Luxembourg limestone cliffs.
There is a direct competition for breeding sites between Eagle owl Bubo bubo and Peregrine and both species show positive population trends.

Hello Tom,
Great shot of a juvenile Peregrine of high technical quality in a fine composition in natural surroundings.
Good to know that conservation measures of this fine species of falcon are having positive results.

Hello Tom

I had one of these guys on my house a couple of months ago.I did not get very good photos because it was on top of my 20m tower. It was keeping an eye on my bird feeder. It dove for a pigeon but the pigeon escaped.I am glad to see they are making a comeback in Luxembourg.Wonderful sharpness and detail ,the eye is wonderful.Ontario now has 78 known breeding pairs up from 57 in 2000.TFS
