[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
a young blackbird (turdus merula) in our wildlife care center, waiting to grow up.
Blackbirds are common in woods and gardens over all of Europe and much of Asia south of the Arctic Circle. Populations are resident except for northern birds which move south in winter.
The Blackbird is 23.5 to 29 cm in length. It is omnivorous, eating a wide range of insects, earthworms, seeds and berries. It nests in bushes or similar, laying several (usually 4) bluish- green-grey eggs with brown reddish marks in a neat cup-shaped nest.
It does not form flocks, although several birds, especially migrants, may be loosely associated in a suitable habitat. The female Blackbird is aggressive in the spring when it competes with others for a good nesting territory. The male is also competitive and will protect its territory by chasing away other males. If a fight between male Blackbirds does occur it is usually short and the intruder is soon chased away.

Excellent macro, here. I love the contrast of the foreground against the background. The dof is perfect and there's a perfect sharpness with the subject. You even caught the catchlight. Nicely done!

Hi Carole.
Excellent sharpness, colour and detail. The feather detail is great still showing all the baby-fluff feathers on his head, delightful.

Lots of detail in your image, Carole...
Seems to be happy as it has some kind of smile:-)

Hello Carole

A beautiful portrait of this cute baby blackbird.
The focus and details are sharp.
The lighting is very good and you have a nice glint in the eye of the bird.
The POV is excellent with very good DOF.
The colours appear natural and the plumage is well seen.TFS
