Haff Réimech" natural reserve, Remerschen, Luxembourg.

Thanks to the birdwatchers amongst you for recognizing the Crested Grebe ;-)

A coording to Wiki it the Great Wested Greve (Podiceps cristatus) is a member of the grebe family of water birds.

It breeds in vegetated areas of freshwater lakes. The subspecies P. c. cristatus is found across Europe and Asia. It is resident in the milder west of its range, but migrates from the colder regions. It winters on freshwater lakes and reservoirs or the coast. The African subspecies P. c. infuscatus and the Australasian subspecies P. c. australis are mainly sedentary.

The Great Crested Grebe has an elaborate mating display. Like all grebes, it nests on the water's edge, since its legs are set very far back and it cannot walk well. Usually two eggs are laid, and the striped young are sometimes carried on the adult's back. Young grebes are capable of swimming and diving almost at hatching. The Crested Grebe feeds mainly on fish, but also little crustaceans, insects and little frogs.

"Haff Réimech" is a large natural reserve with exceptional wild flowers and lots of birds. It is in fact a flooded old gravel pit, with some very nice walking paths and three birdwatch stations.

Hi Mike

Not sure but looks similar to the UKs Great Crested Grebe.

Nice shot - well done!!

Hi Mike
A nice capture of these two Grebes. They have a beautiful colour pattern. Nice detail, composition and frame.

nice photo with the ripples and the grebes? anyway i'd try and lighten the birds a touch.

Hi Mike

A lovely pair of Crested Grebe. Although a little dark on my monitor, you show them well against the rippled water. :-)
