I just came back from a short trip to Montenegro. Soon I will show you some photos from Montenegro and from Serbia. Butterflies and other insects are still active, it is still warm and sunny. Soon you will also see some photos from this trip in galleries of Michal (cedryk) and Radek (cicindela). We have visited Skadar Lake, saltmarsches on Adriatic coast and other interesting places.

Anacridium aegyptium - Egyptian Grasshopper

Order: Orthoptera
Family: Acrididae

One of the biggest European grashoppers witch characteristic vertical stripes on eyes. The colouration of the adults is generally grey, brown or olive coloured which gives them good camouflage against tree bark, with green examples occurring infrequently. The nymphs can be found in a variety of colours including green, brown and pale orange, a selection of which may be found feeding communally. This species is active throughout the year and can be found from sea-level to 1,500m. Their diet consists of various leaves and singly they will cause little damage.

Size: 65mm.
Wing span: 140mm
Distribution: Southern Europe, South-east Asia, North Africa
Habitat: warm areas with trees and shrubs

You can see great photos of this species in gallery of Bayram here and here and a photo of beautiful green nymph in Michal gallery here. Please take a look also at notes.

A fine macro-shot of an adult Anacridium specimen in its prime from a good lateral POV in perfect focus and exposure Krzysztof, would also be delighted to see the whole g.hopper in another posting, if possible...

Hello Krzysztof,

You have made a very good close-up of the grasshopper showing it in great sharpness and fine light. You have chosen a well adapted DOf therefore the whole insect is in focus and very good details of body surface can be observed. The soft light was well used too showing such a recahness of gray color tones.

Thank you for sharing,

Hello Krzys,
A technically first class macro of the front half of an Egyptian grasshopper, in this case a very dark grey specimen. The lighting, composition and OOF BG are superb.
TFS this fine image,
Have a good weekend,

Hi Krzysztof.
I like the close-up of a very interesting specimen. We have a bit different species in our places. Magnification is great as well as terrific details of the insect. I welcome framing of the image and well light absolutely smooth BG. Kind regards and all the best.

Czesc Krzys,
To co mi sie podoba: dobra ostrosc, ladne odwzorowanie detali, dobre naswietlenie.
To co mi sie nie podoba: kadrowanie (moim zdaniem moglbys ta fotke skadrowac ciasniej i zrobic bardziej portetowe ujecie - bez skrzydel), bardzo jasne tlo ktore troche dezorientuje bo odciaga wzrok od ciemniejszego zwierzaka.

No a ja wlasnie sadzilem, ze pierwsze ze zdjec dasz z Cacaka! ;> A tu prosze, zupelne zaskoczenie :>
Fajnie wyszedl detal na tym szaranczaku. Nie dosc, ze ostry robal to jeszcze calkiem fajny "kontakt wzrokowy" ;)
Pozdrawiam i czekam na nastepna fotke!

Hi Krzysztof

Welcome back, my friend! I hope you had a great trip with your (and my) zoologist friends and i as already told Radek it would be nice if we could all meet next year sometime on one of your trips to the south - wither in Romania or farther south. I hope that sounds interesting :)

Anyway, this is a very interesting capture as well!
Excellent close-up here with terrific details and a great attention to the texture of this fellow. However, most of all i think i like its eyes - with those long stripes...they attract so much attention :)
Very good DOF and exposure, too and a good note and links on top of that.

Bravo and TFS
