[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

Probably you all know the expression "see Napoli and die"... Well, I haven't been to Napoli but I visited Montenegro and there are many places so beautiful that may easily replace Napoli in this sentence.

Certainly, one of them is the Skadar Lake. As I already mentioned in a note to some of my previous shots from the area - Skadar Lake is one of the biggest lakes in Europe. It is 48 kilometers long and 26 wide during the high water. Interestingly its bottom lies few meters below the sea level - this is due to the very special geology of this karstic region. 2/3 of the lake belongs to Montenegro and 1/3 to Albania.

There's also another very interesting phenomenon about the lake - sublacustrine springs. Of course we all know small springs - flowing out from below the rock or forming small pond in peat areas. But here, all this huge pond is one spring. Skadar Lake was formed on a karst terrain, rich in underground water. In some places, due to erosion, large natural wells were born. Many of them are below the surface of the Skadar Lake.
In dry season when water level drops down, some of them are better visible. Such is Karuc - located in north-eastern part of the lake. In summer the area becomes a marshland with rather thin layer of water - a true heaven for all aquatic life.

I took this photo early afternoon just before huge stromy clouds came and covered the entire sky. That is responsible for the strange light.

I was simply enchanted by the beauty of this place - I hope you will be too.

Hi Michal,
This landscape appears in an absolutely wonderful ligth. You cauhgt the right moment. The lake looks more like an river in this part. I wonder what are the posts in the water, which we can see in the front?

There are places that tell you about what paradise should look like and this is one of them. That is why you have to see at least one of them before you die.
This one is another one in my list of places a wish to see before I die.
Great shot and great landscape. It is one of those, right place at the right time.
Superb colors and details, great composition excellent POV, DOF and BG. Well framed too.

What a superb view ofver this amazing place!
The light here is simply impecable and the colors very well enhanced by the polarizer.
Also the POV is excellent, the details very sharp everywhere in the frame and the composition very beautiful.
Indeed a place worth seeing with your own eyes :)

Dobrze, ze chociaz na twoim zdjeciu moge obejrzec piekno tego jeziora :-) Swietna kompozycja, calosc wyglada calkiem nieziemsko i bajkowo. Kolory wody i gruby kozuch roslin - super.

Kielze maja sie wciaz bardzo dobrze. Niestety przezywam inwazje pijawek w jednym akwarium - rozmnazaja sie jak glupie i to w dodatku jakis gatunek jedzacy bezkregowce. Pewnie mi wyczyszcza ekosystem :-(

This fantastic landscape shines like a light amongst your other thumbnails. That's not to say your other photos are bad but I'm always drawn towards a great landscape photo, and this certainly is one.
Lots to look at, helped by the high POV but also because of the ground features surrounding the water. Sharp all the way through and a very impressive set of clouds in the background.
Very, very nice, I think I'll add it to my fav's.
