Variable Damselfly (Coenagrion pulchellum)

34-38 mm. Especially long and slender dragonfly, which both males and females are drawn variable. Male: very slim abdomen. The amount of blue on the abdomen varies from almost as many as Azure Damselfly, until only small blue dots. On segment 2 is usually a Y-shaped figure, with the back edge of the segment is attached. The shoulder stripes are often interrupted in the form of an exclamation point. Female: very variable. Often quite a lot of blue on the abdomen, while lighter on his thorax usually greenish. At the other end of the spectrum are women with an overall dark green achterlijfsrug. Best feature is the shape of the pronotum

Very common, especially in low peat and peatlands.

Miscellaneous stagnant, nutrient-rich waters with much vegetation. Especially numerous in peat bog.

Flight and behavior
Late April to early September, the highest densities in the first half of June. Particularly in peat bogs can occur massively. Fresh images hold up in herbal vegetation and reeds. Oviposition occurs in tandem and often in groups. Floating aquatic plants are usually used.

Hello Hans,
A fine macro of a male C. pulchellum feeding on its prey taken from a nice lateral POV.
Technically this is superb and the horizontal composition with the neutral BG works well.
Thanks and have a good week,

Fantastic capture Hans ! Incredible and simple story of predator and prey! Good dept of field, colors and composition! The blue highlights can be adjusted slightly in Photoshop I think, but even like that the image seems pretty well exposed! Bravo Hans!
