Hello Niek what a lovely sunset superb composition awsome colours and sharpness I love the lens also I use it mainly for portrait work and use a canon 10-22 for landscape nice use of filter also TFS rgds Necip.
Congratulations! I think we have both come a LONG way, don't you? It has been a good year. I now have less time and less money to call my own!! : P But, I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's been great getting to know you and learning from you.
This is a nice, strong image. I do like simple compositions. Nice exposure control. Be careful of oversharpening in high contrast areas ( halos around the silhouetted posts against the bright sky)
I wonder where we both will be photographically a year from now! I am looking forward to the journey.
TFS (this image and your time)

Nice image, Niek. I like the elements and the diagonals. I just hope the sunset isn't symbolic of an end.
Gefeliciteerd Niek!! Ook zo'n last van de storm? Het is een prachtige foto, die veel recht doet aan je mooie jubilieum. :)

Hi Niek congratulations for your first year also on TN, great year full of wonderful photo and great sunset with amazing colors of the sky. Great photo to commemorate your anniversary, BRAVO! Ciao Silvio
Hi Niek, happy anniversary. And yes, you have come a long way and learnt heaps - like most of us. We have a lot to be thankful for here on TN. (Thanks Adam and Rob)
I love Evelynn's comments - time and money - but we do have fun, and frustration.
I like your composition and the colours - definitely, TFS

Awe...Happy Anniversary Niek.
TN is such a great place to be and to learn new things.
THANK YOU ... for sharing all of your knowledge and for showing us your part of the world.
Your sunset is very pretty with such deep colours of orange, yellow and grey. The wood pillars add a artistic value to your shot.
TFS and TFBSH (thanks for being so helpful) LOL

Congratulations my friend. How time has flown. In a couple of days I will also celebrate my first anniversary on the site. As a matter of interest, two days after I joined TN, I wrote my first critique to you (it was only my 5th on TN) and since then we have come a long way as far as our friendship are concerned and gaining many other friends, knowledge, and appreciation of nature.
You did very well in this past year and if only we had more members like you TN would be an even far greater place. This past year you have posted 152 photos, wrote an astronomical 3,348 critiques (an average of 9.18 per day), posted 75 workshops, and contributed a tremendous input on the forum. You have enriched our lives with your wonderful personality, pleasant characteristics, and friendly mannerism. This is great stuff and I salute you for the example you made to us and especially to all ‘young’ people on this site. It was great walking this past year with you and learning from you as well so keep on going my friend.
Don’t worry, I did not forget your lovely photo for it is excellent work and symbolic of your labour here on the site. Not that the sun is going to set on it, but it is still rising as we are continuously seeing the improvements you make. Lovely colours, great details, and beautiful light.
Very well done and TFS.

You offer us a smart composition. The silhouettte of the pieces of wood give a bonus.
The "+++" : subject, point of view, sharpness, colors, exposure...
The "-" : nothing...
Congratulations for the photo and the first year !

Congratulations, my friend. : )
One year and over 150 posts later... : )
It sure has been fun, seeing all your photos and learning from you.
Your enthusiasm and earnestness have been contagious. : )
I think this is a very dramatic scene.
The dark silhouettes against the sky ablaze with the colors of the setting sun. The angle you chose for your shot does a good job of showing the decreasing size of the posts in perspective and creates a pleasing composition.
I am not sure about the thin blue line you put in the frame.
Thank you for sharing so much of yourself... your time and talents and dedication.
Looking forward to another year of great photos and great fun.

A beautiful composition!
Scenery is captured with wonderful warm colours, a worthy celebration of the first year in TN...
I just went back to have a look at your first posting (Soleduck River, quite nice actually) and I have to admit there is a development in skills!
Greetings & congrats,

Many congratulations on achieving so much in a year - so many lovely photos!
I agree entirely, the comments and advice and feedback from everyone here on TN is worth so much, it's also helping me develop my skills and understanding and generally look at what can be achieved in a different light.
Keep the wonderful pictures coming Niek!
ps stunning sunset :-)

My congratulations on this round date. TN community is a rich source of human experience, wisdom, attention and support. I wish you to draw from it by full measure creative inspiration and to enrich it with your fine works and comments.
I like your elegant colourful picture, its delicate beautiful cloudy a bit sky and excellent details of the whole image. My best wishes and TFS.
Pieter (sAner) is always moaning about the lack of scenery in the Netherlands. Perhaps he should go here! :)
Great photo, I really like the super-saturated colours. I think the foreground shadows are too intense, though, I would have liked to seen just a little bit of detail.

I had a wonderful time viewing your photos throughout the years. I truly enjoy them and learn a lot from them. This is just another fine example of one of your fabulous landscape composition I so admire. Hope you will bring as many more.
Congrats and many more picturesque moments
Hi Niek and "Happy TN-day" :)
This is very nice and i certainly hope i'll be here to celebrate a beautiful 10 year membership, too ;)
Reading your note, i must say that i felt sort of the same...before i would only shoot for fun or simply for a biological description of some species, with no raely notion of DOF, composition etc.
Now i know i'm not nearly as experienced, but i'm also eager to lean, and i started doing that with also your help :) The discussion i've had with you definately gave me a good perspective and i hope i'll put them to good use in the near future (when i'll actually have something to photograph) :)
Anyway, my point is that i (but i'm surely not the only one)really and strongly apreciate your contribution to TN!
This photo is very beautiful!
The mood it inspires is magnificent and the colors and outstanding!!
I relly like the silhouettes of those logs there - they definately enhance the overall composition, while the exposure is superbly managed.
GREAT work, my friend!
Bravo and TFS...and keep'em coming ;)

No-one would guess that 1 year ago you were a point and shoot photographer. I always enjoy looking at your pictures. I am glad you joined this site 6 months before me. I am still making that transition from a snappy happy person to someone who is trying to improve their skills and you have certainly helped with that. You are never afraid to give the negtives of a picture but you do it so well with advice and guidance. I hope to see the pictures over the next year.
Beautiful light, stunning composition and a good POV. Lovely as ever

Congratulations. 1 year on and hopefully many more to come.
I know that all of us come a long way in that first year - I guess it is like going back to school and having a teacher inspect our work and say 'well actually...'
Great sunset though! There have been some really nice ones in the last month or so and you have caught the sunset well.
I was wonderfing if you had one with a little more detail in the foreground? Perhaps a merge of 2 settings from the same RAW file? Having the just that little more detail available in the foreground would added that sparkle to the gold star ;-)
For those wanting an easier link to Niek's first posting for that all important comparispon - here it is.
Nicely done and TFS again

Hello Niek, there is nothing like a strong saturated sky to catch the eye and this is beautiful. Composition is strong with the silhouetted posts. A little detail in the shadows would have been nice. Hope your keeping well, I shall be back to TN late May AL being well. Regards Steve.
