Ladybug! Ladybug! Fly away home;
Your house is on fire, your children all gone;
All but one, and her name is Ann,
And she crept under the pudding pan.

Ladybugs are a kind of beetle which is an insect. They are usually less than 1/4 in long (from 4-7 mm in length), and have oval bodies. The female ladybug is usually larger than the male. Most of them have red, orange, or yellow elytra (wing covers) and black spots. Some are black with red spots and some ladybugs have no spots at all! The number of spots helps to identify the kind of ladybug. The elytra is a hard wing cover that protects the ladybug's fragile wings. The ladybug's wings are so thin that you can see through them. The pronotum is found just behind the ladybug's head and it often has spots on it. It helps to hide and protect the head. Like all insects, the ladybug has six jointed legs. There are special organs on their feet to help them smell. The ladybug uses its antennae to touch, smell and taste.

The life cycle of the ladybug is between four to six weeks. In the spring the adults lay up to three hundred eggs in an aphid colony. The eggs hatch in two to five days. The newly hatched larvae feed on aphids for up to three weeks, and then they enter the pupa stage. The adult ladybug emerges about a week later. However, they usually do not have their spots for their first 24 hours of adulthood. So, if you catch one in your schoolyard without spots, you may have found a brand new adult. There may be as many as six generations of ladybugs hatched in a year.

Yes I had my fuji cmera just a week, and I had to try the super macro shots. I am crasy about macro, good macro, but thats not always easy. Okee this one I took during the fishing. The distanche was about 10 cm, I hope you like it too.

I like Ladubugs very much.
I don't know if insect can be cute, but if it can than I think Ladybugs are cute ;-)
I don't know much about macro shots, but I think as for one week with your new camara this is good [despite the fact that the head is out of focus ;-) ]
Anyway, I like it and I'm waiting for more nice macro shots

very well done and thanks for sharing !

Knowing how small the ladybug is thats a close macro Jaap. With my kit lens Iv failed to get in close enough. I like the low POV on this one. Great note.

Very good close-up of this snall one Jaap. Good colours, details and composition.
Very well done.

Mooi kleine dametjie wat jy hier vir ons wys, Jaap.
Nice POV, colours and details. The B&W exposure on the face is very well done. IMO, I would be inclined to cropp off some on the bottom, to get rid of the OOF leaf and chnaging the frame more to landscape, enhancing the impact.

Hi Jaap, a welcome reminder of summer although I saw five or so a couple of weeks ago tucked away on some heather and gorse. Nice macro here, very well done.

Great shot Jaap,
fantastic detail, and great details.
good notes too.
Thanks for posting

Great macro with very good angle of shot and very good details.

A nice ladybug, it is always nice to see a image of this insect, everyone likes it, even the gardener, as it feeds on plages for humans. Beautiful POV and lights, but I think some mode DOF to have the contour sharp would be nicer this time. Thanks for posting!

Groeten,
John.

Shy looks like crocheting ;-)
Wonderful photo. Great moment and very interesting note!

Good composition, focus a bit soft on the bug.
Well done.
TFS.

Jaap, I've been trying to find ladybugs here for quite a long time, but, so far, I wasn't successful.

You did great here. Nice colors and composition to show us this lovely and beautiful little creature.

Glorious colours. A great composition, Brigitte, and very well framed. Good DOF
