Myocastor coypus, thanks to Jean-Marie (Nephrotome2) for the identification.

Dutch name: Beverrat or Nutria
French name: Ragondin

The Coypu, or Nutria is a large, herbivorous semiaquatic rodent and the only member of the family Myocastoridae. Originally native to temperate South America, it has since been introduced to North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, primarily by fur ranchers.


This picture was taken in the zoo in Amersfoort.

Hello Marie Christine, this shot is delightful! Gosh I can't imagine seeing a group of Beavers sleeping. Wonderful catch with good pov, nice and sharp with good colours. Fabulous.

nice point of view....I like the way the wood frames the furry bunch....good depth of field and well exposed....they look so snug in their nest.

Attention. Ce sont des ragondins et non des castors. les deux vivent sauvages en France et aux Pays-Bas. La queue qu'on ne voit pas ici est tres differente: ronde comme celle des rats et non plate.
