[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Back to my flowers shot but away from the yellow color. Also away again from landscape photography. I think it will stay that untill the end of july.

I came across this field of wild flowers that were growing along a newly developed road. In just a few meters I had a choise of over 6 different flowers. Unfortunately I was already too late for the poppy.

I am still trying to learn this type of photography. Dealing with DOF is just so much different than with landscape photography. I also need to become more patient in regards of setting up my equipment and waiting for the wind to die. I also need to remember to prepare. That evening I left in a hurry and forgot a few things.

The Sweet William Catchfly (Silene armeria) is a plant of the family Caryophyllaceae. Originally a native of Europe it has become widespread in the USA. The name comes from the way in which small insects are trapped by the sticky sap exuded onto the stem. However it is not regarded as a Carnivorous plant.

Handheld shot in RAW. Small crop and whitebalance adjustment. COnverted to TIFF. USM, frame, resize, USM, converted to 8-bit. Saved for TN

Hi Niek,

Hi Niek,
wow what a delicate shot...perfect DOF keeps the part that matters in our attention, with such vibrant colours and sharp focus. But why stay away from your great landscapes?!

Hi Niek

A really nice shot of a flower I do not know. Good composition - and I like the DOF which keeps the flower sharp.

I have just bought a macro lense and found this type of photography a lot more difficult than I thought.

James

Hi Niek,

Je hebt ze weer gevonden hè. Schitterend plaatje. Mooi zoals je de scherpte van de achtergornd vloeiend naar de bloemen hebt laten verlopen. Komen daardoor beter tot hun recht. Zoals gebruikelijk bij jou. (-: oftewel daar word je blij van. Groeten Bob

Hi Niek, simple but splendid flowers with wonderful colors, great blurry BG, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Niek,
Beautiful composition! The colors are vibrant, and the detail is excellent. The shallow DOF was a great choice here. Great soft OOF backround gives a nice dreamy look. Nice camera work!

Scott

Hello Niek,
I have also experienced that wild flower grow in quantities along roads! I don't know if this is a fact or simply because I'm more likely to spot them where I often go..?
Nice use of narrow DOF, sharp is what sharp should be and the pink colour stands out well on this background...
Well framed in a pleasant composition!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Niek

You are doing some lovely flower shots. Skilled use of DOF. Perfect POV and lovely natural colours. Very attractive shots

Karan

Hi Niek,

You managed great exposure, depth of focus and nice saturated natural colors in this shot. It is very hard to manage a composition with only two main elements, but I think this works pretty well.

Hi Niek,
a good picture of the beautiful flower.
As you mention the wind is your worse enemy when you come
really close and and the SS can be quite long because tyou need
a good DOF, I think you manage well here with fine details,
good compostion and POV. The DOF is maybe a bit shallow but
it's also nice when the focus fade out.
Well done.

Hola Niek.- Unos colores sumamente bellos los de los petalos de esta flor. Un fondo exelente. saludos Luis52.

Hello Niek !
Wonderful shot of a wonderful flower ! I love the vivid pink color, it really pops out on the green BG. The shallow DOF is beautiful too, as only the flowers are in focus - makes them stand out also. Lovely colors, and I also like the simple white frame. Very well done !
Valerie.

Hi Niek

Aaa...you finally got rid of the "yellow obsession" :)))))))))
I mst say that i'm usually not a very big fan of flower shots, but for some reason, all of yours seem so beautiful. Again, i really love what you did with shallow DOF here. The blurred BG makes those little splendid catchflies stand out wonderfully.

I also took a look at your last landscapes, too.
I really like them, too and i sure would love to have such a nice wide-angle lens here :)

Cheers and TFS
Horia

Hi Niek,
I like it...I like the dof background which accents the bright color of the flower...simple photo but so very pretty. TFS
