USM sharpening in LAB: selection owl

Owls are a group of birds of prey. Most are solitary and nocturnal, with some exceptions (e.g. the Burrowing Owl). They are classified in the order Strigiformes, in which there are over 200 extant species. Owls mostly hunt small mammals, insects, and other birds, though a few species specialize in hunting fish. They are found in all regions of the Earth except Antarctica, most of Greenland, and some remote islands. Though owls are typically solitary, the literary collective noun for a group of owls is a parliament.

Very realistic shot! TFS!

Very nice shot of this owl.
Great pov and comosition.
Very well done.

Great capture Annick.
Very beautiful in flight pose of the owl and form of the wings.
Compo and exposure are top notch.
BG and some movement in the front wing, wich give nice sence of action, are wonderful.
Excellent work. My compliments.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Harry

Hello Annick,
I am amazed! This is such a wondeful action shot! Sharp, detailed, accurate colours, nicely composed! What else is there to say! Oh ... I'm going to add it to my favourites!
Kind regards,

Hi Annick,
A great in flight shot!
I like so much the pose caught, with the owl in the mechanics of flight.
It's remarkable the focus and sharp details for a subject in movement.
So good the composition made along the diagonal, and with that beautifully blurred background.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,

An excellent action shot with great composition and exposure.
simply amazing.
well done.

salut Annick
encore une belle image en plein vol, saisir le moment ne doit pas être facile. La position de l'oiseau donne une composition équilibré, son regard dynamise le tout et peut nous faire croire qu'il nous vise.

Flawless capture! Very impressive in all it's glory! Cheers, Klaus

Hi Annick
This is what I would call a perfect shot of a flying owl: sharpness on the eyes just perfect and nice blur on the wings with well visible feather details.
Compo absolutely perfect.
Maybe one question allowed? Owner of a non IS 300 mm 2.8 from Canon, one day I will change to the stabilized version of 300 or possibly 400mm. Is the 400 mm 2.8 not extremely heavy?

Yes, this is a fantastic photo of this owl. You really managed to capture the look here. Great exposure, sharpness and composition! I thing the movement of the wings and the resulting unsharpness of them, really ads to the power of this photo and makes it more interesting.

This will be a favourite of mine!
Best regards/Bengt Falke

Hi Annick,

Hi Annick
Good inflight shot. Good sharpnes, details, colours and light.
Well done

An outstanding action shot! Just enough blurring of the near wing to give a sense of the powerful motion. Brilliant capture, Annick!

Wow, that is a fantastic action shot. Where was it taken? My husband keeps wanting to shoot owls in the wild...and let me tell you they are hard to find. He's gotten a couple of good shots though. The tight crop and pose and placement of your owl is really nice. Exposure is excellent.

Evelynn : )

Impressive and well timed not to mention in broad daylight as well. Good show!

Hi Annick, what a stunning capture! a really top image. I see in your intro pic you are holding your 400mm what a fantastic piece of glass and worth every penny. Very well done.

excellent image....composition too is very nice...tfs...
