THE GREY HERON
The Grey Heron is a wading bird, common throughout temperate Europe and Asia. It is resident in the milder south and west, but many birds retreat in winter from the ice in colder regions.
It feeds in shallow water, catching or spearing preys with its long, sharp bill. Preys are mostly fish or frogs.

THE SHOT
I like the typical winter pose. They stand like this to fight the cold. The ice on the ground shows the hard conditions for them. -14°C (7°F) by night and 2°C (35°F) by day.
Direct sun light. The water is dark dark because it is in the shade of a bridge.
Cropping on the right.

Hi Jean Marie, this is an attractive photo of the heron and the pose makes it look like it has a winter coat on,very interesting indeed.The pov is good and the details are fine and sharply focused,I like the minimalistic colour pallet this capture has.A fine photo and thank you for sharing this image with us. Hi Jean-Marie.
Despite the strong sunlight shot and image of the beautiful heron are exposed precisely. Superb reproduction of the bird image and other its details. I like excellent sharpness and beautifulness of the ground and dark water surface as a BG. Well done and TFS.
