[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) is a wader in the large family Scolopacidae. It is one of the most widespread of the curlews, breeding across temperate Europe and Asia. In Europe, this species is often referred to just as the "Curlew", and in Scotland known as the "whaup" in Scots.

This is the largest wader in its range, at 5060 cm (2024 in) in length, with a 89106 cm (3542 in) wingspan and a body weight of 4101,360 g (0.903.0 lb).[2] It is mainly greyish brown, with a white back, and a very long curved bill. Males and females look identical, but the bill is longest in the adult female. It is generally not possible to recognize the sex of a single Eurasian Curlew, or even several ones as there is much variation; telling male and female of a mated pair apart is usually possible however.
The familiar call, from which this bird gets it name, is a loud curloo-oo.

Hello Tom,
I can't imagine having to go around with a nose this long...how would you ever be able to kiss your wife:)
Seriously though... a great shot of this unique looking bird. Other then the obvious (large bill) the thing I noticed right off the bat is the way it's plumage blends in with the shell ridden shoreline. If it wasn't standing with the water as a BG you may have a hard time even spotting it.
Wonderful detail and beautiful coloration with just the right exposure. Great presentation Tom!!

Hello Tom.
Nice details and the long bill is so well profiled in this composition.
