Still a pitty that we do not have a category for lakes. SO I put this one in trees.

It is a school vacation, which means I didn't have to play hockey last sunday. So, for me, an excellent idea to get up early and return to the same place as the week before. (where I shot the last three photos) But this time I went to a small lake located in the center of the nature reserve. This is paradise for bird watchers, since the lake has a lot of ducks and many other birds come here to drink and rest.

This lake, which is more a pond is situated on top of a hill at 32 meters height. The water cannot run away because at the bottom of this pond a iron pan is stopping the water from running away. Trees that get too close to the shore are causing the water to run away. A lot of effort is put in a project to protect this natural wonder by removing these trees.
Near the pond, you will find a memorial indicating the path that lead to Camp Erika. A prison camp from the WWII.

The tech talk: I converted two exposures from RAW to JPEG. One for the bottom part and one for the sky. (should have been three, but that is just too difficult to do....you figure out why) Merged both photos and masked the bottom half. Levels, curves, and saturation layers. Framed, resize and USM

Yup, back to the more familiar style.

Hello Niek

What an interesting sight! The POV here is simply outsanding gving you the chance to put this dead tree all alone on this bank in excellent contrast with all the other ones from the other side of the lake! What a splendid composition.
The DOF is also great, i like it very much, as well as the colros and exposure.
Great work!
Bravo and TFS

Hi Niek,
This landscape looks quite wild and preserved. I like the way you put the dead tree on the left side. It leads naturally the eye in direction of the background and the sky.
Best regards

Dag Niek,

Hello Niek

Very nice landscape picture you have posted here. Especially I like the dead tree reaching into the sky and in a way breaking the horizon. It really contribute to the scenario in a very nice way. I also like the treatning feeling of the the dark cloud behind the tree (it is adding some atmosphere of death which is increased by the dead tree) and then the blue skye (symolic to life) in the right. The colours are all over very nice too.

Groet reina

This is a nicely exposed image Niek. I like the dead tree leaning into the scene and all the autumn colors. It may just be my #@*&! glasses but it looks like a tad bit of barrel distortion. I have that same lens but haven't worked with it very much. I know my 17-80 Canon is really bad at the wide end.

Hallo Niek,
I like compo of this picture, with a dead tree reaching the sky at left side. Great natural colors. Great shot.

Hello Niek,
beautiful autumnal colors and beautiful atmosphere.
I like this tree died in the foreground which seems to look at the forest in far.

Hi Niek
Good landscape shot. Good POV, colours, light, sharpnes and DOF.
Well done

Hi Niek!
It is time they revised the categories on the uploading panel. I guess quite a few of us feel uncertain about them at times.
Your tech talk is beyond me, but the picture is good. I like the quiet and sombre atmosphere of autumn that this image exudes.
TFS and bye.

Nice POV and excellent reflections in the water. Nice composition, I like the dead tree it has a wonderful shape

Mooi gedaan.
Groet, Ruud

Hello Niek,
That dried up tree trunk is a great addition to this fine composition!
Lovely landscape with emerging signs of autumn, good foreground interest and pleasant reflections!

He Niek!

Mooi gedaan!
