Best friends,
I'm no macro specialist, I want learn through the comment of the other members.

Critique are very welcome

Regards, jhm.

I found this note by Wekipidea.
Honey bees are a subset of bees which represent a far smaller fraction of bee diversity than most people suspect; of the approximately 20,000 known species of bees, there are only seven presently-recognized species with a total of 44 subspecies (Engel, 1999; historically, anywhere from six to eleven species have been recognized). These bees are the only living members of the tribe Apini, all in the genus Apis, and all of which produce and store liquefied sugar ("honey") to some degree, and construct colonial nests out of wax secreted by the workers in the colony. Other types of related bees produce and store honey, but only members of the genus Apis are considered true honey bees.

Hi John,
This is a very good macro!
You had a very good light and got a vivid and very contrasting colors.
I would have left more space surrounding the insect, so the image would benefit to have more "air" and space to let the scene "breathe".
I don't know if you did a crop or if this was the original image.
You got also a some noise, probably due to a high ISO value used. You can fix it easily with a filter in post production.
Well done and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Hi John.
Maybe you are not an specilist on macro, but I find your image quite nice.
The composition is lovely, the magnification level very good and colours&lights are well managed.
The only thing I would point out is the large amount of noise that is seen on the OOF parts of the flower. Maybe it could have been inproved with some noise filtering software.
Thanks for sharing, hope to see more in the future.
Regards, Felipe.

Hi John,
that's a nice moment, I like this busy bee with the pollen all over, very well done, thanks

hallo JOhn,
Ja nu bent U in mijn gebied, grapje. zeer fraaie macro,
groet Jaap

Hi John.
Very nice first close-up shot. I think this material (notes and critiques) will be useful for you (see Macro lessons). For fruitful help you should give EXIF-data.

However, I welcome your picture. Very nice pictured scene, lighting details and colours. I wish you great pleasure from macro shooting. My best regards and TFS.
Alexei.

Hello John,
Excellent macro work, my friend!
Good point of view and attractive composition...
Fine details in the bee at work!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi John, I am no expert on macro so I can't give you a lot of advice. I can say though that this is a very good shot of this bee. The composition with him passing over the stamens of this flower is great. The light, colour and detail I find incredible. I especially like how you have captured the pollen loose on the bee's bristles and packed away in those pollen sacks.

Thanks, John

Beste John,

Ik heb deze foto in de verzameling gevonden! ;)

WE may need an imker to find out why this busy bee has such big clumps of pollen on its legs!

As to macros, I assembled a lessons Theme based on the notes from Alexei. Perhaps that will be helpful.

Tfs, Jay

Hello John,
A pollenated bee... Quite impressive given the exposure data, esp. f/2.8. Short of using a tripod (which noone on TN seems to own :), I would suggest a flash (better yet, a flash bracket) for more depth of field and for avoiding wide-open softness. There seems to be some noise (ISO?) and jpeg artifacts, which are just facts of life. But I think I also see banding to the left of and below the bee's head. Is 5D known for banding?
Best wishes,
Hakan

bonjour john
je pense que vous auriez du retoucher la BG avec un logiciel pour le bruit, mais sinon les details et couleurs sont bons.

Excellent details and focus on the bee. Nice colors too. The flower is a little "blown out" but I am sure you had a very bright sun. Maybe you can try a faster shutter speed or shoot manual mode and under-expose by one f-stop when the sun is so bright on white flowers. But, I realize your subject was the bee and it shows very well!

Ricardo

Beautiful macro my old friend with pleasant composition and excellent technical characteristics, due to appropriate and scarce DOF and the correct catchment starting from the focus and sharpness obtained.
Exists an evident loss of quality, perhaps for used high ISO or for the post processed of the image that degrades the final result lightly.
My best regards.... Ricardo

Hi dear John;very quality a macro shot,best colours,regards...

Hello John,
This is one of the best macros of a Honey Bee that I have seen on TN, despite the close cropping.
Great POV and sharpness and the composition showing the full pollen baskets is excellent!

i am no expert either but i can say this is good
for real critique you can say there is slight noise in the background a slight 'feel' on the surface of pixels having been 'managed'
the result of course is perfect and way better than some i have seen...but there is a long way to go..for me too to get the crispness and naturalness that can be seen taken by the experts here
my tip is to use a smaller aperture and tripod if possible..if light is poor and you make the best of it as you have...then speed is critical especially hand held.
did you use raw
cheers

hi John,
beautiful picture, maybe you are not a specialist in macro images but this one is really great, the bee seems to be very busy and you catched it very well
best regards

Hello John. Nicely closed on this bee. I like the way its body is covered by the pollen. Looks like the bee is still hungry feeding inside the petal of the beautiful stamens. Well done and best regards. Jusni

hello John

an excellent photo of this bee on work, with fine POV, superb focus
sharpness and details, excellent contrast and excellent luminosity, TFS

Hello John,

Hi John,

Superb macro shot without doubt. Wonderful lights, cropping and composition - there's a bit of noise on the pic though, but not too much and isn't too strong. You show the "eating bee" in a pleasant way. Congrats and tfs.

The Hungarian word "buzogány" means "mace". :)

Friendly regards, László

Hi John,
