The spring is allready present in Poland so this time - just for the contrast - picture from much colder area - Spitsbergen ;>

I would like to dedicate this picture to Hakan (delic), really the great lover of deserts and the desert canyons.
On the other hand dear Hakan, I hope that you will like this short break from really high desert temperatues ;>

Really photo presents a summer period, where ice and snow are absent in many regions in this time. Thanks to "high temperatures" in July-August (about +10-15C) Spitsbergen is a really green inland of the white bear :>

...Before I went on Spitsbergen I have known that this is an island of white bear (Ursus maritimus). Many of my colleagues who visited this place told me "if you spent 3-4 days there, you will see this species, there is no chance to miss white bear!". Well, as for me it looked great!!!

I was on Spitsbergen more that 3 weeks, in Polish polar station in Horsund, in Longerbyen, in Kongsfjorden, New Alesund...
Just after 5 days I saw many bird species, rens, seals, polar foxes, whales, and even mushrooms which are bigger than Spitsbergen's trees (there are a few willow species, about 4-5 cm high!)... But I wanted to see a white bear!!!

Well, really I wanted to see it alive! Why alive? The answer is very simple. You can easy see white bear on Spistbergen... It is present on traffic-signals (!!!), on the T-shirts in the centre of Longerbyen... If you are lucky you can even see the skin of this species in one of the souvenir shop (it is not often because white bears are strictly protected in Norway, including Svalbard Archipelago).
Well, I have to say that I even found remains of one specimen on the bank of glacial river near Polish station - just a few bones of dead male... But I really wanted to see the alive one!
And finally, almost at the and of expedition - I saw!

But please guess where and how...

It was in Polish polar station in Hornsund... Early evening... Nothing special... And suddenly, one of my colleagues changed cannal in TV and there was trasmission from Bernin's ZOO!!! The white bear was present in the "full beauty"... ;>

The day after I have to take the Polish vessel "Oceania" and leave "the land". None other bear was seen by me during this expedition... Moreover, the few hours after I took the ship, the huge male of white bear was observed about 200 m from the Polish station... Bad luck...

This photo was taken in Hornsund fjord, about 1 km W from the Polish Polar Station. I took it by my old Russian camera ZENIT 12XP so unfortunatelly this is only a scan. Here you can see the colder and much more "icy version" of Hornsund fjord :>

Czesc,
Bardzo mi sie to zdjecie podoba. Swietne kolory - paradoksalnie zachmurzenie pozwala na wydobycie bogatej tonacji barw. Podoba mi sie tez szeroka kopozycja z duzym prawie pustym pierwszym planem i dobrze dobranym sztafazem w lewym dolnym rogu.
Jedyne co mi przeszkadza to skaza negatywu w polowie wysokosci zdjecia po lewej stronie. Mogles to wyklonowac.
Serdecznosci,
Michal

Hello Radomir,
I'm sorry you missed the Polar bear but you sure got some splendid photographs from there!
This is really wonderful - the depth of focus, the sharpness, the colours, the shapes of the mountains and the clouds!! (I think there's even a little birdie on the left, or is it a smudge?:-))
Many thanks and best wishes,Ulla

Hi Radomir.
Upon a time in the USSR could do good enough goods. How many years ago it was. I had Zenith TTL.

I like the captured landscape and your shot so much. The cloudy mountains, lights and shadows are looked very expressively. Colour palette of your shot is great as well as the DOF, sharpness of the image and POV. Your dedication is very suitable. This picture remind me the Hakan works. Perfect done and TFS.
Alexei.

P.S. What about requests?

Hello Radomir,
this reminds me a bit of the Chilean landscapes I encountered on my trip. You captured the landscape very well. I like the division of space and the colors are fabulous.

Hi Radomir

Another wonderful landscape photo from you, my dear friend!
Even more impressive is the quality of this one, taking into consideration that it's a scanned slide.
The details and colors are most charming and the composition is very beautiful.
I like the mood created by the low and very "thick" cloudsover the mountains and also the very steep and sharp peacks they are hiding.
The shadows on the slopes are a lovely touch, as well as the in-flight bird (if i'm not mistaken).
Anyway, a splendid work!

Bravo and TFS

Hello Radomir,
This must be the typical desolate Arctic landscape. The low-flying clouds make the scenery quite dramatic. They also provide good contrast with the relatively warm color of the tundra. Nicely composed and presented. Well done and TFS.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Hello Radomir,
Interesting story which you tell us to get along with this Spitsbergen-landscape. Wonderful colours of the ground. I like the three level composition,ground-mountain-clouds. (I like northern landscapes a lot)
Best regards and have a nice sunday
Anne

Dear Radomir,
who needs to see a Bear when you can have these breathtaking views, and in the sun to boot. I have never seen any such picture of Spitzbergen. And I guess your visit had more to do with creepy crawlers; may we see some of them?
Thanks for posting this wonderful shot,
With my best rgards,
Dietrich

Hi Radomir,

Nice landscape with a good view. Be careful when sharpening a picture because to much creates a halo effect around well defined elements. For example, you can see it in the darker parts of the slopes. Also, a strong FG can be achieved with a element in the FG such as a rock, long grass of tree.

PC :)

Hi Radomir!

I love the story about you "hunt" for the polar bear! Sorry you missed it! I like the picture - it shows how bare the polar steppe is, even in summertime. I have not been to Svalbard myself, but I really want to go there one time. Maybe to look for the polar bear myself ;)

Hi Radomir,
I like this picture very much. What a beautiful landscape! Great composition with a very nice lightfall and full of details. The attractive clouds makes the atmosphere in your photo complete. Informative note also. Very well done Radomir, compliments!
