Here I will direct your attention to the trees in the background, bordering the field! And river Gaula is just behind the 25-30 m wide band of alder.

Alder is the common name of a genus of flowering plants (Alnus) belonging to the birch family (Family Betulaceae). The genus comprises about 30 species of monoecious trees and shrubs, few reaching large size, distributed throughout the North Temperate zone, and in the New World also along the Andes southwards to Chile.

One of the favourite habitats of the alder in Norway seems to be along rivers and streams, often bordering cultivated land as in the image, and this must be the fastest growing tree here as it can gain as much as one meter in a year!

The best-known species in Europe is the Common or Black Alder (Alder glutinosa), native to most of Europe and widely introduced elsewhere. The largest species is Red Alder (Alder rubra), reaching 35 m on the west coast of North America, with Black Alder and Italian Alder (Alder cordata) both reaching about 30 m.

Alder is a preferred wood for charcoal making, formerly used in the manufacture of gunpowder, or for smelting metal ores, now used primarily for cooking. The wood is also traditionally used for smoking fish and meat, for instance the smoked Pacific salmon industry in the Pacific Northwest, where alder smoking is essentially universal.

Alder is popular as a material for electric guitar bodies. It is used by many guitar makers, notably the Fender Guitar Company, who use it on top quality instruments such as the Stratocaster and Jaguar. Alder provides a brighter tone than other woods (such as mahogany), and as alder is not a particularly dense wood it provides a resonant, well-rounded tone with excellent sustain.

Hi Pablo! amazing-simple view of nature contrasts. Well captured with great sharpness!
Perfect :-)
Greetings from Poland
Clara

Hi Pablo!

Wonderful colors and a very good composition. The lines in the field come together in the right and in the tress they come together on the left. It gives a "zigzag" pattern that leads your eyes all the way through the picture.
It looks beautiful! TFS

Best regards,
Andor

Hej Pablo,
Very interesting view across this field to the band of Alder at the base of the forested hills. I expect there is a stream or river there too which we can't see here. A fine composition in lovely colours. Very intersting note too!
Many thanks, Ulla

Very good shot Pablo!
The composition is superb.
Great detail and sharpness.
The trees at the end of the field look like the start of a rainforest or mangrove swamp :-)
Nice range of colours and an even exposure.
Well done!
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Pablo

I love the way the Alder rise up and form a block - very impreesive. Alder are water loving trees and often line the banks of streams here - though in ones and twos - nothing like this. An impressive composition.

James

hello Pablo,

I have enjoyed reading these notes!
It's better than the Encyclopaedia Britanica!

In addition to this, we have a superb photograph. The composition fits the thirds rule precisely! Lovely colour contrasts between the three areas!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hola Pablo.
Saludos, Jl.

Hi Pablo!

Looking at your picture remebers me that the warmer seasons are coming soon. The different layers of color make this picture an outstanding one: the yellow of the field, the green of the forest, the blue of the sky, the whole well distributed and balanced.

Kind regards

Hi Pablo

Another well thought of picture and one in which you really took care about the composition!
I really like the way the alders pop-up - with their white bark standing out even from the BG.
The colors everywhere are very beautiful - typical for October - and the overall exposure is well controlled.
Great work!

Bravo and TFS

Hello Pablo,
The alder grove beyond the cereal stubble makes an interesting dividing line in this composition and the skyline makes it a fine composition, the conifer-cladd slopes of the mountain dotted by autumnal colours with the blue sky contrasting against the gold of the stubble. A very nice image to view and thanks for sharing it.
I didn't know alder wood was good for making quality guitars. I knew only that it was good for making clogs!
Ivan

Hi Pablo,

A nice image of the yellow field, of the trees and of the mountains under a beautiful blue sky, the point of view is giving depth to the photo which is clear and precise. The good luminosirty brings out the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre

Hola Pablo,
Magnifique, sobre, riche et grandiose, très belles couleurs et superbe composition.
Bravo
Marie

Once3 I owned 10 acres near Seattle, so long ago. Everyone told me the alder trees were weed trees. After reading your account, they would have made great firewood, or just to enjoy them growing..... I had mostly cedar, now long ago sold. It was my dream to live in Washington state, so beautiful. Norway seems to be beautiful, but dark cold winters sem unbearable to me. How can you not go nuts without sun?

Hi Pablo,
The river must be very beautiful with Alder along its bank. Sharp and crisp clear image. Very nice pov and composition. TFS this fine image and informative note.
JC

Hi Pablo, nice shot of this stand of Alder. You have it nicely positioned between the up front field and the conifers on the hill. You can see how it follows the river, as described in your notes. The colour in your shot is good with great saturation, with good sharp detail seen in the foreground field and in the subject trees.

Thanks, John

Hello Pablo,

You have mixed some contrasting colors very well here. The foreground is just brilliant under the light with uniformity of threes creating the edges. The pines on the hill is well contrasting against your spotless blue sky. Excellent landscape composition here.

Regards,
Jusni

Hi Pablo, splendid landscape with wonderful light and colors, great composition, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Pablo,

What a amazing simple photo, but oh so nice. A beautiful diagonal line at the hills. A very tight file trees and a very flat corn field on the forefront. In a word: "splendidly" Beautiful colorsettings. Nice POV, BG and DOF. A wonderful composition and intereseting notes. You have doing your best Pablo. Thanks for that. Greetings and TFS BOB

Hello Pablo,

We see the first autumn colours in this wonderful image.
Very well captured and nice composed, again a nice landscape picture with pleasant colours through the contrasted between the foreground and forest hillside.

Best regards,

Hi Pablo,
The trunks of this alder trees really stand out from the dark canopy and the other trees in the back. The framing of this photo is great, the pale blue sky above the trees and the warm field below channel your eyes perfectly toward the Alder.

Hi Pablo,
Although You don't upload Your wonderful new photos, we don't forget You... You know what I think about Your always fantastic landscapes, this one isn't an exception: perfect composition with the field, the mountains and the row of trees on the riverside between them.
Made a quick WS, because the colors are a bit too cool to my taste - or blue was a little more than the optimal by my personal POV.
Otherwise an excellent shot, tfs. Best regards, László

Hej Pablo,
AL in swedish or Öddra in Jamtland,
great comp that almost gives the trees a feeling of more exotic trees.
