Fern unfolding is a display of attractive lines and shapes!

I did some experimenting with the DOF here, and it is my personal opinion the narrow version works best!

Maybe the result is more artistic than educational, but then why not?

Some facts:

A fern is any one of a group of about 20,000 species of plants classified in the phylum or division Pteridophyta, also known as Filicophyta. The group is also referred to as polypodiophyta, or polypodiopsida when treated as a subdivision of tracheophyta (vascular plants).

Ferns have a popular image of growing in moist, shady woodland nooks, but the reality is far more complex. Ferns grow in a wide variety of habitats, ranging from remote mountain elevations to dry desert rock faces to bodies of water to open fields. Ferns in general may be thought of as largely being specialists in marginal habitats, often succeeding in places where various environmental delimiters limit the success of flowering plants.

Hello Pablo,
This is a very artistic and aesthetic picture. I love those curves here and beautiful DOF. Details and natural color are beautiful. This is very nice and I love ferns as I think that they give very good picture's opportunities. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Pablo,
I like these photos with a very shallow DOF. It does give the photo a wonderful artistic feel. The unfolded ferns do make for some wonderful shapes and patterns. I like the intens green color of this photo. It looks like you got a very large archive to use.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Pablo.
This is a great DOF and composition, the eye goes straight to the uncurling frond. Beautiful colour through-out the image and good detail in the point of focus you chose.

hi Pablo, this is nice shot . like some lizard tail. Goodcompo and introduction.

This is no doubt an artistic presentation of a fern unfolding itself, Pablo.
The fresh shoots of a kind of hairy fern in our area in the mountains are consumed by people as seasonal vegetable and are also pickled. I have tried the stuff, but it does not taste good!
Thanks for seeing the beauty in this simple phenomenon of nature and sharing it with us.
Best regards.

bonjour pablo
c'est effectivement une bonne experience menée ici avec peu de profondeur pour concentrer le regard juste sur la palme de fougere.

Hi Pablo,
a very well composed Macro shot. I loke the DOF it works hand in hand with your POV.
Fabulous all those green tones, the looks fabulopus and adds nice depth to the photo.
Very well presented in this great frame.
TFS..Sky

Hi Pablo, what strikes me about this shot is the colour and the curving of the fronds. This composition for me works very well. I like the depth of field you've chosen but I think I would have been happy with more as well, as long as the fronds themselves were isolated from the background. In any case, very nice.

Thanks, John

I see you've got a lot of greenery already despite the late snows in spring. Ferns are ancient plants - much older than the rest - so they deserve to start the summer greenery close-ups with. The shallow dof is impressive - it makes the composition.
Good luck!
Anton

Hi again dear Pablo ,
nice shot with excellent focus.

Pablo,
Love the soft tones of the emerald green.
I was foolish not to register these in Terceira, Azores.
There they are a 'pest'. They grow so profusly out there.
Thanks for sharing.
Liked your notes too.

Pretty, refreshing green, as they unfurl! I love ferns, they feel cool just looking at them on a hot summer's day!

Hello Pablo. The different in climate don't differ much in shape and details of this fern and ours. Nice shallow depth with excellent focus where it matters. Pleasing hues of green in good framing. Well done and best regards. Jusni
