Dear TN friends,
After few months of being mostly away from home, it seems like I'm back - at least for some time...

As for the beginning, I would like to present you one of my hunts from the spring, a beautiful insect called:

Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale - Hawthorn shield bug
Family: Acanthosomatidae
Suborder: Heteroptera
Order: Hemiptera

This bug belongs to a quite large family of shield bugs, named after their body shape, reminding the shape of medieval armour shields. Their other interesting characteristic is secreting irritating fluids when bothered. The fluids have strong and strange "chemical" smell and for that these bugs are known also as "stink bugs". The species presented feeds on various trees and bushes and is widely distributed in Europe.

Here you may notice a small yellow dot on its scutum (the green, black dotted triangle on the bug's back) - it's a parasitic mite (Acarina), an animal belonging to the same group as tick attacking people. There are over 45,000 species of mites described until now so it's difficult to say which one this is :-) Anyway one needs specialist and a microscope to determine.

Hello Michal
Welcome back!
Wow, the detail is very sharp here. You've captured wonderful details and colour. Plus the dark background really enhance the rich colour of the stink bug. Interesting note to...especially about the mite.
TFS Janice

Hello Michal,
a high quality picture of that bug, including the mite. Application of flash light is professional. Exact focus and superb sharpness. I enjoy to study the clear structures and nice colours on the bug's surface. Right point of view and selection of display window in combination with the fern leaf results in an attractive presentation.
Best wishes, Peter

Świetne zdjęcie. Super kolory i doskonała ostrość.
Jak udało Ci się uniknąć odblasku od lampy błyskowej?
Świetne ciemne tło (to też dzięki lampie błyskowej, tak?).

Hi Michal and nice to see you back :)

This is a splendid double capture and an excellent shot!
The sharpness of all the details here is esceptional and the usage of a high f-stop was definitely the way to go in order to ge teh entire bug into focus.
The colors are gorgeous and the flash management is excellent, too.
All-in-all, a terrific capture, my friend!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Michal.
After so long absence you have returned with terrific by subject and quality shot. Without any doubt I have marked it as my favorite picture. Reproduction of the beetle and leaf are outstanding. Exposure parameters (I am amazed with skillfully selected f-number) and flash light are brilliant. Details, sharpness of whole image and colours are fantastic. My congratulations and BRAVO. The best job.

Que fotografía más elegante Michal .... Una luz fantática y lo mejor el perfecto enfoque conseguido. Limpieza de colores y excelente fondo. Una sensacional fotografía.

Saludos : J. Ignasi

Hello Michal,
Welcome back!
Nice sharp and detailed capture of the Hawthorn Shieldbug with excellent use of flash to highlight the cobtours and the parasitic mite. The POV lends its self to this central composition. As flash often gives a 'night time' effect one wonders if these bugs are nocturnal as well.
TFS and have a nice weekend,

What a wonderful macro, Michal! A king among minibeasts! Wonderful details on the extra sharp image!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Many thanks for your warm critique on 'Autumn Colours'.

Hi Michel, splendid bug with wonderful cvolors, excellent sharpness and superb details, very well done, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio

Hello Michal,
brilliantly clear details on this deeply colourful image. The skilful use of flash makes the scenery look like gleaming in strong sunshine, and the enormous depth of field with such a close approach has delivered an outstandingly precise image.
Thank you! With best regards,

Hola Michal.
Bellos colores los de este insecto.
Perfecto encuadre y genial bg.
Excelente nota.
Saludos y tfs, JL.

Hi Michal,
Welcome back :o)
Focus, sharpness, color tones, contrast, composition, POV and details are very good. Well done and TFS
Best wishes,

Excellent macro Michal with sharp details and nice colors. Very good DOF, flashwork, and the black BG is great..
As shield or "Stink" bugs go, this one's a particularly handsome guy :}
Welcome back,

Hi Michal,
how could I overlook this exceptional bug pic. You did an excellent job here what with composition, light, sharpness. It's just the stark shadows that give the flash away. Well done!

My best regards,
