Weekend comes, so I have some time to share with you some of my nature's views. I told you several times that green is my favourite colour. So this time it's another of my green compositions:

Geometra papillionaria Linnaeus, 1758 - Large Emerald
Subfamily: Geometrinae
Family: Geometridae

To me it's a fascinating moth. It's one of the largest geometrids occuring in Central Europe reaching 6 cm of wing span. It has beautiful shaded green colour and it's rather common everywhere in Europe.

It has one generation per year, with adult flying from June to September. Larvae are feeding on downy birch, silver birch, hazel, alder and sometimes on beech. It's most often found in woodlands and large hedgerows but also in old gardens and parks.

Althought there are several other green species in Geomteridae family, none can be mistaken with Large Emerald - just because of the obvious difference in size. For comparison you may see my Essex Emerald, which I photographed some time ago in Bulgaria.
Thanks for watching and take care :-)

Hello Michal! Very good subject and a very good capture! Very nice composition and great technique. thanks!

hai michal,
the subject is so sharp.very well taken,...

Hi Michal,
Green is also my preferred color :) What a great capture! This is a superb specie that I think I have never seen before. You caught great sharpness and used appropriated aperture. You controlled flash very well and this dark background makes your lovely model stand out well. This is beautiful!

amazing color for a moth indeed
nice sharpness
