[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Northern Hawk Owl (Surnia ulula) is a medium sized owl. The term "hawk" refers to its falcon-like wing shape and long tail. This bird is 35–43 cm (14–17 in.) long with a 69–82 cm (27–32 in.) wingspan. It has a rounded head with yellow eyes, dark brown upperparts and barred underparts and tail.

This bird lays 3-7 white eggs in large tree cavities or nests abandoned by other large birds. It will also nest on cliffsides. It has little fear of humans, and will attack if the young are approached too closely.

The Northern Hawk Owl is a partially nocturnal owl, which hunts voles and birds. It waits on a perch and takes advantage of its rapid flight to overtake prey. This Owl has exceptional hearing and can plunge into snow to capture rodents below the surface.

Czesc Jacku,
Swietna ostrosc, swietne ujecie. Bardzo ladne naturalne kolory. Takze swietne rozmyte tlo.
Pozdrawiam
Maciek

Hi Jacek
a nice capture of Surnia ulula among tree branches, with great eyes contact. a beautiful focus and exposure. POV and composition also very nice. good informative notes. thanks for sharing.
have a nice evening
Ahmet

No no, taka rzadkość u nas w Trójmieście!

Przepiekny, klasycznie ujety, portret madralinskiej "sowy". Super kolory.
Pozdrawiam

Hi Jacek,
Wonderful Hawk owl. Great light on its wing feathers and into its big yellow eyes. Its cropped a bit much for my taste, but really nice.
Well done.
Denis.
