Yesterday I walked in the Botanical Garden. In forest area I spotted something white on brown BG made from dry leaves. As I walked closer I saw beautifull area all covered with Snowdrops! Amazing view. Spring is very late this year because Snowdrops should bloom few weeks ago!

The Common Snowdrop, Galanthus nivalis, is the best-known representative of a small genus of about 20 species in the Lily family Liliaceae that are the first bulbs to bloom in spring.

All species of Galanthus have bulbs, linear leaves, and erect flowering stalks, destitute of leaves but bearing at the top a solitary pendulous bell-shaped flower. This species grows 15cm tall, flowering in January or February in the northern temperate zone. The white flower has six petals, the outer three segments being larger and more convex than the inner series. The six anthers open by pores or short slits. The ovary is three-celled, ripening into a three-celled capsule. (Snowdrops should not be confused with their relatives Snowflakes, Leucojum species; Leucojums are much larger and flower in summer, with all six petals in the flower the same size.)

Info from Wikipedia.
Propagation is by offsets removed when the plants are at rest, immediately after the leaves have withered; or by seeds sown either when ripe, or in spring. There are numerous cultivated varieties, different in the size of the flower and the period of flowering; the double form is probably the least attractive.

the note is very good too.
intresting observation about the spring as here too it looked like it was going to be early, but in the end it arrived pretty much on time due to a cold spell that arrived from your part of the world ;0))

Perfect capture. Well done on this composition. My kind of closeup photography when I get the chance. Soft, not in focus, but in detail, it's a compliment, nice touch.

Grzegorz, this is very nice. A clear, clean and delicate shot. Perfect sharpness, nice colors, great bg.

Hi Grzeg,

I just uploaded a photo of Galanthus nivalis, searched for others on the site about this plant, that's how I found this 4-year-old image of You. Very strange to think: at that time when You uploaded it, I haven't had an internet connection (neither before) or digital camera in my hands... No, I rather don't think on it deeper. :) But as I see Steve ('LordPotty') and Janice were already here, and You got the first comment from Your wife. What's up with Joanna now? Does she photograph yet?

Very nice close-up macro shot, MF. Excellent details on the petals, and the color contrast is simply fantastic. I don't like the non-removed background noise, but You know, this is me... :)

Tfs, find a lot of this plant now - this is the real sign of spring. Best regards, László
