This is one of the smallest frogs I've ever seen.

I don't really know what species this is, but probably this could be young Common frog (Rana temporaria). It's quite hard to distinguish frogs that live in Poland, couse most of them are very simmilar.

I found it on a wet meadow partly covered with water. This fellow was very shy, so I had to "chase" him for a while until he get a little calmer and allow me to get closer.
He is sitting on the flower od Dandelion, so you can see how small it was ( I think avout 3 cm).

Anyway, this is frog, so I can write some intersting things about frogs and toads in general ;-)

This animals have been associated with dark magic and other evil matters for centuries. Legends tell tails of witches mangling toad bodies in satanic rituals, or concocting malicious spells and potions from the body parts of toads. Basque tradition held that witches could be identified by the presence of a marking in the shape of a toads foot, and in the Great Pyrenees, witches were thought to have a toad image in the left eye. Other myths tell tales of witches extracting toad skin secretions, or collecting toad saliva for use in flying potions, and invisible spells.

Frogs were also associated with weather predictions, as they would begin croaking just before rains. Preceding this observation, frogs were often impaled until they screamed, and weather predictions would be made based upon the nature of their screams. Witches were also believed to control the weather by concocting brews of snakes, toads, and frogs, often referred to as "Toad Soup".

In Poland it wasn't good to kill a frog. If one did it in a short time he had a pimple on his tongue. This illness was even called "a frog".

PS. Any ideas about the right ID will be welcome ;-)

Fantastyczne ujęcie Moniko.
Dobrze skadrowane, ładne kolory i dobra ostrość. Dobrze zrobione.

Nice capture, the POV is well chosen, and the DOF is also a good choice

Hello Monika. The perfect POV and unusual - you don't see a frog on a flower very often! This yellow flower adds great color to the frame and helps to light up the underside of your frog well IMO. Good details and composition. Hey, I like your frog!!

I think this is one of your best Monika, you've got a great model. great job.
Thanks for posting

Ahh hes so cute, I wonder did he climb up on that flower or did you place him there? If he did jump up you caught him at the opportune moment. My ladybirds were given a helping hand ;))

Its a very good capture and you have a good eye for composition Monika. Id love to see what you could achieve with a DSLR or high-end digicam were you could experiment with exposure, aperture etc. Are you ever tempted? Good work BTW.

I think he mistook the dandelion for a lily pad, Monika!
Great photo, good detail, and well composed.
Thank you.

Very nice POV, Monika.

You shouldve kissed the froggie , see, now you missed your prince, Monika ... By the way, why in our parts Eastern Europe wasnt a good sign to kill a frog like you said? Because it was quite common the belief that dark magic curses and spells could transform humans in frogs and therefore you wouldve killed a human in fact, on the other hand witches could take the form of a toad and that was less conspicuos, even desired to kill ... Why I know these things, I was born in Transylvania, the Mecca of all superstitious beliefs of the old continent...

Hello Monica
Excellent capture of this little frog.
Well seen
