No dragonfly or damselfly today. One of my favourite spiders. Founded in Botanic Garden on reed. I like its golden colours and patterns on abdomen.

Tetragnatha extensa - a long-jawed spider - Family: Tetragnathidae

This spider has a very elongated, cream coloured body and very long legs. Typically, it sits along stems, grass blades or the centre vein of a leaf with the front two legs on each side extended directly forward and the back four backwards. This makes it extremely well camouflaged.

It is found on low growing vegetation in long grass or damp places and makes a fairly loosely constructed orb web. This species is one of our commonest spiders. All are effectively harmless to humans.

Predatory mainly on flying insects caught in its web.

Hi Greg,
Excellent macro of this Tetragnatha, these spiders are very hard to photograph in such a detailed, artistic manner..

Hi Greg,

I have never seen a spider that looked anything like this! A wonderful shot showing off the very long legs and the golden body. He seems to be conforming to the shape of the reed. Excellent colors and details.
