Something new today. This is ruby tailed wasp also known as cuckoo wasp. Unfortunatelly I don't know specie, my Collins was useles in this case :-)

Looks like this is Hedychrum nobile - thanks Peter for ID!

Commonly known as cuckoo wasps, the Hymenopteran family Chrysididae is a very large cosmopolitan group (over 3000 described species) of parasitoid or cleptoparasitic wasps, often highly sculptured, with brilliantly metallic bodies and bright coloration (thus the common names jewel wasp, gold wasp, or emerald wasp are sometimes used). They are most diverse in desert regions of the world, as they are typically associated with solitary bee and wasp species, which are also most diverse in such areas.

Members of the largest subfamily, Chrysidinae, are the most familiar; they are generally cleptoparasites, laying their eggs in host nests, where their larvae consume the host egg or larva while it is still young, then consuming the provisions. Other subfamilies are parasitoids, of either sawflies or walking sticks.

Hello Grzegorz,
phantastic!! The colours are bautifully reproduced and the
reflectance of the body
surface is perfectly managed. Furthermore, you precissely focused on the frontal parts
of possibly Hedychrum nobile, but I'm not sure on the species identity.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Greg. A very colourfull one this is . i wonder what mother nature was up to with this one. So unusual with the shiny colours. good detail in the body . i have just seen the huge eyes it has. well done TFS.

Hi Grzegorz,
This is a lovely shot! Details and colours are great! This is an interesting family and not easy to shot because of their tiny size. The Sigma lens did not allow you to come very close and this shot is a real performance. Congratulations,

You do know that not only is this a super shot...it is an amazingly rare one in quality and subject...I am deeply impressed. Please never give up photography. The world would be less without you!

Hello Greg,
Wow, what a fabulous fly and very well captured! Excellent focus on the eyes and front showing the lovely bright and shiny colours very clearly. Good light and it shows up very well against the sand. Great work!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi, Grzegorz,

wow, what a dazzling beauty!! It seems to me that it is going to take part in a great dancing show. I like the contrast between the attractive insect and the plain rocky background. thanks for sharing.

Hi Greg

Definitely new my friend :) I like your always interesting contributions to TN and this photo here makes no exception.
It's a species i haven't seen before, but i will be on the lookout for them because they are indeed lovely. That metallic iridescence and the tones that result from the reflections are simply outstandingly captured here.
The details and the textures are also terrific and another great example of how good this lens is for macro, too :)

Bravo and TFS

Hello Greg,

Hello Greg,
A great macro of H. nobilis, a species of cuckoo Wasp that i think is absent from Sweden.
The sharpness and colours are superb and the POV against the soil shows this little beauty in the best way.
TFS this wonderful image,

Hello Grzegorz,
Excellent framing and very natural colours for the picture of this metallic bee. Nature is so colourful and surprising. Very good sharpness, even on the small stones in front of the picture. Interesting posting.
Thanks and best regards

Wow, what a "gem" Greg.
I've never seen a more colorful wasp, the colors of the rainbow all present.
Very well done, nice catch my friend!
