The Lappet (Gastropacha quercifolia) is a moth of the family Lasiocampidae. It is found in Europe and Northern and Eastern Asia.

The wingspan is 5090 mm. The females are larger than the males. The moth flies from June to July depending on the location.

Its latin name quercifolia refers not to the foodplant but to the moth's resemblance to a cluster of dried oak leaves when at rest. The English name describes the caterpillar, which has fleshy 'lappets' or skirts along the sides.

The larvae feed on Crataegus, Prunus spinosa, and Quercus

Hello Krzysztof,
these moths - or ist a leaf? - are really bizarre. Good sharpness and well select depth of field
which requires an optimal point of view and exact focusing in particularly regarding f/3.2.
You managed it perfectly.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Krzysztof,

rarissime, surprising, beautiful is what comes to my mind first. You really had me there, I almost overlooked the picture, "another autumn leaf". I have never seen this moth in my life, thanks a lot to share your discovery with us TN people.

hello Krzysztof,
A very spectacular looking butterfly, which I discovered a few years ago on this site with a picture of Osmeterium, if I remember well. But it seems to be shown very seldomly. Probably because it looks like a leaf, most people don't see it :-). You have seen it and show it in an excellent picture, like you always do.
Thanks also for the note.
Kind regards
Anne

An amaxing moth, great camouflage. Good composition, sharpness and details.

Hello Krzysztof,
I don't know whether this is a first on TN, but I haven't seen quercifolia on T N before.
It is an excellent capture, taken with fine sharpness from a POV that allows its dead leaf appearance to show well against the contrasting bark BG.
A fine shot that I should have seen before!
Thanks and enjoy the rest of the weekend!
