Another drama from Botanic Garden in Lodz. On the left corner - one of Assassin bugs, Rhinocoris iracundus. Predator with big beak is sucking another true bug - Graphosoma lineatum. This is quite common scene, because there is many both of species around. But look slightly behind assassin's beak - there is small fly from family Milichiidae which is cleptoparasite and try to eat big, free meal. In one of my last posts I wrote aboute these flies. But this isn't end of story. Look at fly closely - it has big, red abdomen. Well, this isn't abdomen - this is fourth actor of this drama - small mite which parasitized fly. Parasite parasitized by another parasite during theft of food from big predator. Nature is fascinating :-)

Goodness gracious, here is the veritable enactment of struggle for survival, especially with the parasites doing their act so brazenly, Greg!
Your explanatory note did help in identifying those parasites merging so seamlessly with the scenario.
A fantastic action picture that deserves accolades.
Well done and thanks for sharing this gem of a picture.

Hi Greg,it's the first time that i can see the force of the Irancudus, very great timing and excellents sharpness and colors too.A very interesting and different macro very very useful! Thanks for share, have a nice Sunday,Luciano.

Hallo Greg
What a unique image! The interaction between these two bugs is captured with great clarity and preciseness. You say in your note that this is a common scene but believe me for me it is not. For me this is exclusive. At first I thought this is two of the same kind of insects but reading your note and observing a bit closer one can see the difference. The black and red colour is very striking and spells out war quite clearly. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Anna

Witaj Grzegorz!

Niezła scenka - w takim powiększeniu nawet potyczka niewielkich owadów może budzić grozę świetna kolorystyka i ostrość.

Pozdrawiam
Jacek

Hello Greg,
Great title to a fine capture!
A red-and black Assasin Bug sucking the life out of a red-and black Graphosoma. The POV is great and shows the event with fine sharpness and colours.
I see a fly, parasitised by a red mite, is in on the action too! Life in the raw!
Thanks and have a good week. Here it is now 31 degrees! Pheww!
Ivan

Witaj Grzegorz.
Świetna scena prosto z życia. Świat owadów nie zawsze jest tak piękny i kolorowy z ich punktu widzenia. Super fotka pełna dramatyzmu, muszka chyba nie chce ich rozdzielić.
Pozdrawiam Robert

Hello Gregorz
great shot of this dramatic scene, i like the close view and all the fine details,
before i read the note, i have not seen the small fly and his red parasite, it's a nice bonus, superb coloration and beautiful contrasting BG
Have a good night
Jacqueline
