Don't ask me why, but this cute fellow - especially in this pose - reminds me of the song "Mr. Bojangles" :)

Oh, by the way, i've arrived in Poland :)
Here, the weather is pretty chilly but the people are very warm!
There's plenty of snow and plenty of work for me to do, but thanks to my great hosts (in this case Michal [cedryk] and Greg [red45]) we snuck out this morning and went to a really nice locations here in Lodz: one of Greg's favorite places for shooting birds and small wildlife. The weather was on our side (crispy clear sky and sun shine) and with the help of some elderly folks that were feeding the animals, soon we had plenty of photo subjects surrounding us. It was a really great morning and an excellent beginning for the photographic part of my trip to Poland :)

This is a Eurasian red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris), by the way...but i'm sure you knew that :)

Hope you'll like it and thanks for visiting :)

Hello Horia
Fantastic photo, just fantastic.
Regards, Christodoulos.

Cześć Bogdan,
jak Ci się udało zrobić takie zdjęcie?? Jestem totalnym amatorem, więc czasami zastawiam się jak to możliwe żeby zrobić takie ujęcie. Pozdrawiam
Maciek

Buna Horia,
Foarte frumoasa capturata aceasta veverita surprinsa de la nivelul solului cu detalii si culori impecabile. Felicitari!
Numai bine,
Mircea

Wow Horia it is a wonderful work that one! Bravo! Wonderful clarity and sharpness. the chosen point of view is just amazing. Lovely clean simple background! Amazing stuff indeed! And all this with a dedicated macro lens! If you excuse me I have just removed a bit of the blue cast which is naturally created in those conditions. Make no mistake I think your white balance here is briliant! Bravo again!
Regards,
George Veltchev

This is a perfect photo in all respects!
Best wishes,
Pambos

Hi Horia!

It was great pleasure to meet you! This place is called Zdrowie Park and is much more attractive during warmer months :-) I hope will see it again as others great places in Lodz. I'm glad that we met few birds and these cute animals at least. I like pose of your main subject - looks very tired of many strange people with cams who disturbed lunch :-)

Hi Horia,

I love your Mr. Bojangles! Those straight up ears and the expression on his face are wonderful - he must be surprised by all of the snow. A terrific pose, nice natural colors, good details, the snowy setting and the touch of blue sky make this a charming picture.

great shot in the immaculate snow, well done

Hello Horia,
Fantastic capture of this cute red squirel, busy in snow. Amazing sharpness and composition. The white balance and colours are perfect, with the typical blue background we have with sunshine on snow. Thanks for this beauty,
Catherine

Really cool shot, Horia! The squirrel stands out from the background and has extremely cool pose too. I like the way u used the sunlight too. It works very well isolating the squirrel from the shaded surroundig. And we had a great time too :-)
All the best,
Michal

A delightful shot Horia!
The low POV, the pose, the smiling facial expression, the technical standard and composition make this an excellent winter portait of a Red Squirrel.
I think the colours, including the bluish tinge from the snow and sky are just right.
Thanks and all the best my friend,
Ivan

Hello Horia,
Great to hear about your trip to Poland and your reunion with old TN friends! You're lucky to have seen a Squirrel, I don't know where 'ours' have gone to! A lovely close-up showing sharp details and lovely colours against the snow. I gather it's been very cold in Poland so I expect the Squirrels are frequent visitors to the bird tables.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Outstanding shot. Cute as it can be.....Travis

Hi Horia
The phenomena of the snow cover has a significant effect on climate, plant, animal and human life by increasing the reflection of solar radiation and interfering with the conduction of heat from the ground.

The texture and density of fallen snow undergo constant change, Snow on the ground tends to become increasingly dense.

Snowflakes are formed by crystals of ice that generally have a hexagonal pattern, often beautifully intricate. The size and shape of the crystals depend mainly on the temperature and the amount of water vapor available as they develop.

Who knew snow could be such a colorful subject? There is even a red algae that grows on glacial snow, for a warm, rosy effect. "It tastes (and looks) like watermelon," enthuses Antarctic expert Stephen Warren. "Try it -- it won't hurt you." Different strains of algae produce yellow, orange, green, even purple snow. The flavor of these hues - except, perhaps the yellow - has yet to be established.
