Genus: Araniella
Species: Araniella cucurbitina

Araniella cucurbitina
(one of two species called the "cucumber green spider") is a spider of the Araneidae family. Females grow up to 8 mm, males only up to 5 mm. The spider is mainly found on forest clearings, where it weaves its orb-web between leaves and flowers. These webs are only about 10 cm in diameter.
This spider does not use a hideout, because it is camouflaged by its green colour. Adult spiders first show this color in spring. Freshly hatched spiderlings are red and change to brown until fall. On the end of the abdomen there is a red mark in adults.
These spiders occur in the Palaearctic*, although it can be found in parts of North America, where it was probably introduced.
Araniella opisthographa is an almost identical spider which can only be distinguished from A. cucurbitina by a microscopic investigation.

*The Palearctic or Palaearctic is one of the eight ecozones dividing the Earth's surface.
Physically, the Palearctic is the largest ecozone. It includes the terrestrial ecoregions of Europe, Asia north of the Himalaya foothills, northern Africa, and the northern and central parts of the Arabian Peninsula.

The lighting and exposure is fantastic on this one. You lose some strength due to the central layout, maybe a vertical layout with the spider at a classical 1/3 from the top would improve the image

Very well done

Wsitaj Roma,

Witaj Roma,
A superb capture of this Green Araniella. The lighting is great with a fine effect on the legs, the sharpness top and the colours saturated. The composition is too central though.
Thanks and enjoy your weekend,
Ivan

Hello Roma,
Excellent focus on this tiny and beautiful spider. Love the all in green impression of the whole shot. Maybe you could have shown the picture from a little bit closer point of view or with another framing. A lot of possibilities for this beautiful picture.
Have a nice weekend
Anne

Hello Roma,
A fantastic Spider very nicely captured against a soft green background and in beautiful light. I quite like the big open space all around, it is 'different' and you get a feeling of how small the spider is. Well done!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla
