[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today is Wigilia [Christmas Eve], probably most important day for every Pole. We are waiting for first star and after we'll spot it, we'll ready for Christmas Eve supper. Traditional one should contains 12 dishes menu. Modern one [like ours ;-)] includes Boletus edulis soup, fried Pangasius hypophthalmus, boiled Brassica oleracea with Boletus edulis, bread made from Secale cereale and cake made from Papaver somniferum. Only one hour left to supper, so Merry Christmas everyone once again :-)

12-dishes Christmas Eve Supper:

The traditional Christmas Eve supper in Poland consists of twelve dishes representing the twelve months of the year. No meat is served during the supper, except for fish, usually herring, carp or pike. Other traditional dishes appearing on the table include red borscht, mushroom or fish soup, sauerkraut with wild mushrooms or peas, dried fruit compote and kutia, a dessert especially popular in eastern Poland. Boiled or fried pierogis, Polish dumplings with a wide variety of fillings, are among the most popular Polish dishes. For the Christmas Eve supper, pierogis are usually made with sauerkraut and mushrooms.

*By the way - I [and many Poles agree with me] think that fish is most important for Christmas Eve supper ;-)

Thanks for infos on some Polish Christmas customs. I hope you're not cooking that fish!(from the picture)
In Romania is customary to eat fish on the New Year Eve. It is said to bring luck.

the stone fish is intresting and clear though I would of preffered a closer crop to remove the surounding bits, it would I think allow a better veiw of the details that are there. TFS

Hi Greg, this is very interesting, so different from our customs - we have none in NZ, just bits and pieces from our families. If you have families from England you have to have the hot Christmas dinners.
But a Kiwi Christmas dinner consists of maybe cold ham, chicken, turkey; then a variety of salads; plus icecream, fruit salad and the Pavlova (a specialitity of mine).
But this year we had a BBQ-Kiwi-style for Brunch. Croissants, bacon, eggs, potato hash browns, tiny sausages, fruit, champagne, etc, etc... And it was hot and sunny and no wind. And we had a great time.
