Yes, I'm still not big fan of butterflies but I post this one to remember myself that nature has got other colours than black and white :-) Look at my workshop [attention Gerhard! :-)] - picture taken few hours ago in 'Zdrowie' Park. Looks like there will be White Christmas in Poland this year.

This is Small Tortoiseshell, one of most colorful and common butterflies of Poland.

Aglais urticae - Small Tortoiseshell (Nymphalidae).
Appearance: This widespread sunny looking little beauty actually shows much variation in size, but it usually has a wingspan from 47 to 53mm. The brood that emerges in the summer also is more yellowish and warm in coloration than the one on the wing right after the winter.
Geographical distribution/ habitat: Europe throughout Eastern Asia. Attracted to flowery places and is common in all sorts of habitats from gardens to uplands.
Host plant: Common Nettle (urticaceae) only.
Food plants: Nectar of herbaceous plants and bushes. Seems to love Cirsium arvense “Creeping thistle” just like Inachis io.
Flight time: Has 2 to 3 broods in a year, and is on the wing through Mar-Oct. Hibernates as an adult.

Great captured of this beauty Gregor the colours on this species is stunning. Yes I think its alittle over-sharped but overall a superb shot. Good post.

Świetny zestaw naturalny i kolorystyczny. Wszystko ostre i dobrze eksponowane. Fachowa robota łącznie z notką.

Re-Salut Grzegorz!
Une excellente composition pour ce loli petit papillon.
Quelle netteté des détails!
Un angle de prise de vue et une profondeur de champ époustouflants.
Un superbe ouvrage: image et note.

Very lovely capture, Grzegorz. The colors are fantastic, and centered composition seems appropriate. It may have been slightly oversharpened, but a wonderful photo.

Grzegorz, just beautiful, everything is amazing but detail and light need special mention.
A delight to my eyes, nothing to critic, just enjoy. TFS.
I had a second view when adding the points I did not have yesterday, and this time I cant avoid including in my favourites. Greetings.

I know you did the WS for Gerhard, but I took a peek as well and I feel very sorry for you. I previously mentioned that if you keep on posting those beautiful forest shot, I might move to Poland - Well I have changed my mind!

The detail and colors here is beautiful and I like the composition.

Very well done and thanks for posting

Excellent sharpness and very well presented. The DoF is very good. A beautiful showy butterefly on a pretty flower, well done.

PS the workshop photo is cold and miserable, but nevertheless interesting to see from sunny Australia.

Great macro
