One of the most common Nymphalidae in Europe. Picture presents the female just waiting for the male ;-)
It's quite large butterfly - the maximum wingspan is 52 mm. Adults are on the fly in July and August - you can find the butterflies near everywhere - especially on meadows, forest borders and forest roads.

The caterpilars feeds on diferent grasses - especially Poa, Festuca and Bromus.

Hi Chris

Congrats on an excellent shot. Well composed, good clear detail and nicely saturated colour. :-)

excelletn shot with great DOF and sharpness. Mine usually land with their wings folded up and in grass where they instantly disappear.

I would have cropped more.

Nice sharp shot of the Meadow Brown, although it is a bit worn. Maybe a bird has pecked away a bit of the wing.
Thanks, Ulla
