It's very sad that in a big city it's so difficult to find some kind of plant pretty, fresh and just clean.
It's because of pollution... I think it's a big problem in our wold, in our health, etc...

I don't like to leave in contaminated world!
For many decades this issue in Poland has been completly forgotten!!! Financial pressures and industrial and agricultural needs taken precedence and over ecological concerns. This short-sighted policy has resulted in disastrous consequences. Poland is one of the most heavily polluted countries in Europe nowdays. The contamination of rivers, lakes and sea has become the common condition. The water is viewed as a dumping place where sewage and industrial waste can be washed away and hopefully disappear! As a result, swimming is forbidden in mamy places at the our pretty Baltic seaside and in many rivers and lakes! In fact, 90% of Polish rivers are so badly polluted that the water is not only unit for bathing or drinking but ever for washing or cooling systems in factiries! What's more, people living by a river or the sea are far more likely to develop varius sicknesses and skin infections.
The consequences are dire! Poland has one of the lowest life-expectancy rates in Europe. The inhabitants of the most polluted Polish cities are susceptible to such serious medical problems as respiratory illnesses, infectious disases, anemia, developmental disturbances, congenial diseases, miscarriages, mental retardiation and many others. And.. in no other European country have there been so many cases of cancer for the last few years!

I wrote it because I'm worry. I love nature. I think we have got very pretty country with our mountains, lakes and beaches... I love polish trees and flowers! I would like to keep it not only at my photos!!!

After falling down of communism and all industry in Lodz we have got very clean air :-) Even lichens can live here. Biggest problem now is pollution from traffic. Heavy industry in Poland is in agony, too. So this is good perspective for air :-) Think about Mr.Bush and Kioto.

I love these frozen pine /fir needles Joanna. Just think, if you lived here you couldn't take photos of these beautiful things. It looks good in B/W too.
Pollution - we have troubles here and our beaches are closed sometimes after rain storms because of sewage overflows. I didn't know how bad Poland was. That's not good news at all.

Good capture. Good details and nicely composed. It's almost like you shot this in B&W. Well done!

Joanna, Brrr - good detail & impact! I found your notes very informative..My wife is Polish although she has lived here most of her life..I shared your info. with her. She's saddened & shocked at the sorry state of affairs at this time in Polands history...

Perfect, what a capture and details. Your focus and DOF are spot on. A beautiful composition. Well done.

Hi Joanna, nice shot. The textures are veyr well captured and the feeling of cold is too! I would have been tempted to go for a closer crop to lose the gap in the top left. Well done.

Very good image Joaanna. Crisp tack sharp detail and interesting notes. I agree, we shoulod all become more aware of how we destroy our planet and work activly to correct that.

Yes Joanna fantastic textures captured handled with correct exposure and accurate DOF. Very nice.

I feel for you girl, it seem like this is the same problem with a lot of the country, pollution and dirty environment. I once saw an ads in NZ TV last year, a couple is taking their wedding photos near the beach, and when the camera zoom out, it show that this couple is having their photo done on the beach which had a montain full of rubbish all over next to their feet. It is sad to see, but it is the reality if people not careful, we are going to lost all our beautiful moutain, grass, tress and the rest of the nature forever.

Photo of yours very good POV, great detail and well done.

Critique:
Personal assessment of the photo: great
Good visual impact.
Aptness of the photo for the site: excellent
Personal assessment of the note: not a word on your subject ;-(
Comment:
I think it is a red pine.
Thanks

Beautiful shot, Joanna. I like very much this series with the frozen vegetation. They are all vey nice. Fantastic but sad note. I am angry to hear all you said about your country, but I am afraid that it is a general problem. For the companies it is cheaper to pollute and pay the "bill", than to stablish the systems to get rid of pollution. If that does not change, there is nothing to do.

You definitely have an eye for art! Nice focus, contrast and levels, and great composition.

Joanna, the composition here is just great. I like lighting and sharpness. It seems a black-and-white picture. Is it?
