This one is dedicated to our friend Radek [cicindela].

I was walking around Botanic Garden, searching for dragonflies and butterflies in my favourite area with different species of herbs and poisonous plants. Suddenly I spotted kind of very fast and active insects. For first look I thought they're flies or something similiar. But no - they're beetles, Tiger Beetles to be exact. This group of insects is fascinating. They're perfect predators with big jaws, excellent sight and amazingly short time of reaction. They're fearless also, ready to attack far bigger targets then them [like my leg for example]. They're Pagani Zondas of beetles world. And most important thing - they challenged me! Who is faster? Small, stupid Tiger Beetles or my karate-Jackie-Chan leg? I picked up the glove. Few seconds and three or so splashed bodies later it became obvious who won. I left Tiger Beetles' area quite happy :-)

Hello Greg,
I see your archive is very rich.Magnificent capture of this interesting bug.POV,lighting,3D effect, framing and composition are wonderful.Excellent work mf!

Hi Greg
Nice composition. It has beautiful colours and a wonderful pattern.

bonjour grzeg
un crop plus important aurait été preferable a mon avis mais cet insecte semble tres interressant, avec de jolies couleurs et motif.
bien vu.

Really cool insect with nice military clothes!

Hi Greg,
The thumbnail does not do this little Tiger Beetle justice..Interesting bug mf.
Excellent color and sharp details here..
Very well done.

Hola Grzegorz,
Excelente la luz y nitidez conseguida, muy buenos los detalles. Un saludo

Hi Grzegorz!
At first I would like to thank you for this nice dedication!!! It is really a great and unexpected honour for me! :) And moreover, it is a picture of tiger beetle - my favourite beetle family! :) Thanks a lot! :)

And now something more about this beetle species ;)
On your photo there is Cicindela hybrida hybrida Linnaeus, 1758, one of about 40 tiger beetle species (Cicindelidae) occurring in Europe, and one of only 7 recorded in Poland. This species is presently the most common Polish tiger beetle species. And your record from the centre of Lodz City is a good proof for this theory :)
Once again many thanks for dedication!
Best regards,

Hi Greg,
Very nicely composed picture.
Superb sharpness.
Colors were well defined.
Excellent shot.

Hi Greg

This is a charming and very cute post and a 100% fitting dedication! I'm sure Radomir is happy about it!
I really like the shot a lot here. The colors and patterns of the beetle are gorgeous and they look like an army camouflage :)
Also the details are super sharp - i especially like all the tiny but very well visible hairs on the legs - and the exposure is spot-on.
The BG is great, too, having nothing really distracting yet a pleasing pattern made from lights and shadows.
The framing is excellent and the composition wonderful.
One more thing to add: the note is also great - Pagani Zonda are one of my favorites! ;)

Cheers and TFS

Hi Grzegorz,
sorry I missed this picture before. Tiger beetles, they are notoriously difficult to make a picture of, what with their small size and their erratic ways in full speed. But here you caught it in its starting position, legs pushed out, ready to explode on the track, with its great mandibles ---and with a sunbeam on its back! Lucky you--- no, I know it takes a lot of expertise t take such a picture. My congratulations (and you dedicated it to the right person, Cicindela).
My best regards,
