[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This years short vacation brought me again to the Azores, but this time to the island of Sao Miguel. It was more a vacation than a photography trip, but still I found some time to make a few photos.

This was taken near the village of Mosteiros on the west of the island. If you look closely, you can see the rocks in the water going all in a half circle. Clearly a result from an volcano. The island in the distance is called Ilheu dos Mosteiros and is a haven for seabirds.

The exposure for this photo was difficult. Daylight, really black volcanic rock and glare form the ocean. I used a 10 stop ND filter and a 0.6 grad ND. still I had to merge to exposures to get as close as possible to an acceptable result. One exposure was for 30 seconds, the other for 60 seconds.

Hi Niek,
Merging the 2 images was worth all the time and effort, because the end result became something really noteworthy. Great usage of the "sunny f/16 rule", and even you had black volcanic rocks in the foreground, the exposure is excellent, no loss of details at all. Pleasant composition and beautiful "long-exposure effect" on the water (and on the clouds). Not simply acceptable, as you wrote, but a masterful image imho. Bravo!
Best regards, László

Niek,
All those islands are live volcanic formations; they have earth tremors 24/7/365.
Great image.
You are a true MASTER; plus, you know the tricks of the trade = photography.
CONGRATULATIONS,
Mario.
P.S. My server, Telus, is still working on my situation re: this site. Am still using a "PROXY" connection.
The "useful" does NOT register.

Hi Niek,
Eigenlijk kan ik hier maar één ding van zeggen: een meesterwerk.
Dit gaat bijna de fotografie te buiten. Het is meer dan dat.
Groet,
Peter

hallo Niek

Hallo Niek
I was very happy when I saw this beautiful landscape you posted. I
really miss scenes like these as the landscape photographers are missing from the site. People like PaulH, gracious, Signal-womb, just to mention a few, truly spoiled us with wonderful scenes of nature and it is a pity that they do not post anymore.
This scene is very relaxing to look at and enjoy. Best regards and thanks for sharing.
Anna

Hi Niek.
The result of your efforts is stunning. Photo looks like art work. Tcloude sky is very impressive as well as shadowed rocks, piece land with vegetation and nicely blurred and coloured waves. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.
