"Serra da Estrela (Star Mountains) is the highest mountain range in Portugal and includes mainland Portugal's highest peak (Pico mountain in the Portuguese Azores islands is higher), which has a natural altitude of 1993 m (around 6541 feet). However, in 1816 - 1826 the Portuguese king João V ordered the construction of a 7 m tall tower so that the peak could reach 2000 m. The location of this tower is known as "Torre" ("Tower", literally translated).

The mountain range is about 100 km long and is 30 km at its widest point. It is formed from a huge granite ridge that once formed the southern frontier of the country. Due to its bizarrely shaped crags and gorges, mountain streams and lakes, beautiful forests and magnificent views, the area ranks among Portugal’s outstanding scenic attractions.

The Mondego river which is the biggest river of Portugal entirely set in Portuguese territory, rises in the Serra da Estrela. Viriathus, the famous Lusitanian leader and Portuguese national hero, is said to have been born in the town of Loriga in the Serra da Estrela. During the Roman Empire, Serra da Estrela was known has Herminius Mons (Mountains of Hermes).
The mountain range is now part of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park and offers plentiful skiing opportunities.

The Serra da Estrela Dog (Cão da Serra da Estrela) is a breed of mountain dog that takes its name from this region."

Hello Ana,
I can see you need to chill down from the hot Portugese summer! And this is a great way...
I think the snow is very well exposed, great texture; and the plains take my eyes to the big clouds hovering in a distance...
Very well composed, this is an lovely image!

Hi Ana.
I like your art picture so much, its interesting subject, excellent composition, pleasant "play" lights and shadows, very well selected POV and excellent sharpness of the image. Despite the white surroundings you managed to create picture with delicate colour palette and soft lighting. My compliments and best wishes.

Ana,nice mage and wonderful composition. The snow and the cloud are looking similar and adding show to the shot. Ganesh

Hermosos detalles y contrastes.
Buen encuadre. Una imagen refrescante en este estío tan seco.
Saludos, JL.

You have really put us in the clouds here. Nice contrasts in whites and textures. White and whiter. Soft and softer. Well done.

Hello Ana,

This is quite spectacular!
Beautiful composition of these very different elements! The light shows the grainy texture of the snow, and the fluffy texture of the clouds.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Your notes are just as BEAUTIFUL as this image.
You are a true patriot.
I've been here. With no camera in hand... about 45 years ago.
The landscape of the region is BREAT-TAKING.
Warm regards,

Hello Ana,
Wow, a very impressive shot , the crystallized snow in the foreground and the massive clouds over the edge make for a great composition. Looks like an amazing place! TFS

Hi Ana,
I always like the view you get when standing on top of a mountain. It somehow confuses me a little since the clouds are most of the time in a different position then one would normally expect. You gave me that feeling in this photo a lot. Especially with so much land in the bottom part of the photo. I like the difference in texture between the snow and clouds especially since the are both white. This must have been a tricky photo to expose, but you nailed it.

That's an interesting tale. Aren't people funny about being the tallest?

This is a shot of an unusual sight. This is not an easy shot to expose correctly, but with so much white in the image I think it is a bit underexposed.... therefore the snow looks gray. Compensating up a stop may have brightened it a bit without blowing out the clouds. I did a workshop using an adjustment layer.

Thanks for sharing an out of the ordinary scene.
