[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [Portuguese]
Here, we can see a new emerged adult insect of Papilio machaon (Linnaeus, 1758).
The picture shows also the empty pupa and new pupa.
The pupa and adult insect are stand of the food plant (Fucho, in portuguese - Foeniculum vulgare).
Their larvas feeds also on a wide variety of plants such as: Cicuta virosa, Carum carvi, Trinia, Laserpitium, Pimpinella saxifraga, Aegopodium podagraria, Anethum graveolens, Angelica silvestris, A. archangelica, Levisticum officinale, Peucedanum, P. palustre, Pastinaca sativa, Heracleum sphondylium, Daucus, D. carota, Heracleum, Ferula, Dictamnus albus, Ruta and Haplophyllum.
The eggs are yellow and laid on one of those food plants.
This species is very preaty and we can see them fly from spring to summer.
The butterflies likes to feed on the nectar of some flowers, called in Portugal as "Zínias"
The picture shows a male of this species, the female is bigger then the male.

I'd like to thanks to my friend Felipe, from Spain, who told me how to resise the picture.

Hello Paulo. I see you have found the solution to get the good size. well, this butterfly is superb, next time cut a little bit the parts which are not necessary around the subject. Well seen.

Hi Paulo!
WONDERFUL butterfly! Just superb colours. I never saw something like that!

The good time!
Nice POV and DOF.
TFS, Laurent

I like very much the light colour and composition. Thanks, Ori

A very fine and delicate image, Paulo. Vanishing colors give a kind of romantic touch to the composition. Butterfly is beautiful. The empty pupa adds to the story. Very well done.

les couleurs sont assez speciales mais le sujet est peut-être un peu trop centré.

Hello Paulo, good picture of a Papilio machaon. I like the butterfly. Very good shot. Great POV and very good details.
Good visual impact. TFS.

It's a very beautiful insect.
Good POV and great focus showing us details very well. The bad concern here is the BG. It is light coloured and hence so much shiny.
It distracts a lot.

Wow, beautiful butterfly, Paulo. I like it very much.Good job.

Well done. The only nit I have is that perhaps I would crop out the wall on the left. Apart from that I think you've done a good job here.

It looks like a painting, wall texture appears like canvas. Even colors are very interesting.

Great work.

Expectacular! una meravella!

Bonsoir Paul,
Quel magnifique papillon. je n'ai jamais vu celui-ci en France. Les couleurs sont délicates et bien rendues. Joli travail.
Amicalement
Martine

Hello Paulo! What an extraordinary capture of the very new hatchling butterfly! You were really at the right place at the right time! I like the lightness of the composition, the soft greens and cream coloured wall accent the light colours of the butterfly. What great eyes! Marvellous macro, you have a very good eye too! Well done! Thank you, Linda

Hi Paulo.
Wonderful capture. I really like the soft tones in your photo. I don't think I would crop the photo, because I like how you show the stringy texture in the plant that the butterfly and pupae are on. The butterfly stands out well with its black outlines and pretty colouring. Well done!
Claudia

Hi,
This is my favourite butterfly among all. I like the clean look and the fine black line over it.Beautiful shot - POV and DOF.
Thanks for sharing.

Very fine picture of the Swallowtail butterfly. The very subtle pale colours add an artistic touch to that excellent naturalistic shot. Thank you for that. It adds to my favorites. Best regards,
Peter

José M.

I think the colurs and the lighting in this picture are excellent. - you are so lucky to have been there at the right time.

Emma

Hello Paulo,
Very excite to see a butterfly just emerged from cocoon. The blending of natural colors here also fantastic. Well seen.
JC

very good shoot.

Hi Paulo
Very nice presenattion. It looks like a drawing from an old book on insects (white buckground and almost all stages on one image) I know that kind of drawings especially with P. machaon
Best wishes
Krzysztof

PS I hope that you will post some new photos :-)
