Plebejus argus, (Linnaeus, 1758)
Family: Lycaenidae

Wing base is brilliant blue, dark band on the outter edge. Angular Apéx. Posterior wing with subterminal series of dark points. The underside is light bluish gray, hind wing as a series of dark spots flanked by an orange stripe. The female is brown, with orange lunules, the underside is more orangeish and generally with spots more accented. Wingspan: 24-28mm

The egg hibernates, greenish color, levelled and alveolated. The caterpillar is green or brown and possesss a dark dorsal line with white fringe. It feeds of Cistus libanotis, Halimium commutatum, Trifolium spp., Astragalus spp, Ulex spp. and Coronilla spp. Associates with ants and becomes pupa near the bottom of the plant. The pupa is smooth and of green color. The adult flys between June and August in mountainous areas with low-growing or bush like vegetation, between 200 and 1900m of altitude.

Is common in all Europe and Asia, even in Japan.

Hi Hugo,
a composition to my heart: the animal in it's environment. Beside the nicely coloured butterfly you also chose to include the great texture on the rock.

The iridesent colour in the wing is very eye catching. Looks great against the grey of the BG. Nicely composed with the b'fly diagonal in the corner. Nice work.

This is a really beautiful composition! I love the bright blue argus against the rock and lichens, very nice contrast and all in focus.
