Potentilla argentea

Perennial plants with distribution in dry, gravelly areas, sandy meadow-land, ponderosa pine forest, disturbed areas. The genus name Potentilla translates to Little Powerful One, a diminutive of potens, meaning "powerful". It is thought that this translation is directly relating to the medicinal aspects of this plant. Cinquefoils have a higher concentration of tannic acid, which act as an astringent, aiding in the clotting of blood in minor cuts. An interesting observation with this plant, is the rate at which the petals fall off the flower. New petals will open up by morning and by early afternoon they will start to fall off and gather in the dirt and grass below. It is believed that these flowers are favored by pollinating insects and that the complete pollination is achieved during the first few hours. Thus reducing the need for the flowers to maintain their petals for long periods of time.

Nice picture of this potentilla. Good note, too.

I'd use a larger f-stop to improve the depth-of-filed. The center of the flower is a bit out of focus. However the final result is very pleasing.
