[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have like 20 pictures of this insect but only in 2 the proboscis was closed in a spiral form. I choose this one because the background is smoother.
@LATER EDIT:
I observed that proboscis is not in the center of the head. it`s on a side. probably if I was on the other side of the subject a had more chance to have also insect body and the proboscis in focus.

Macroglossum stellatarum (lat.) // Hummingbird Hawk-moth (en.)

DESCRIPTION:
The is a species of hawk moth with a long proboscis, and regularly hovers, making an audible humming noise. These two features make it look remarkably like a hummingbird when it feeds on flowers, a result of convergent evolution. It flies during the day, especially in bright sunshine, but also at dusk, dawn, and even in the rain, which is unusual for even diurnal hawkmoths. Its visual abilities have been much studied, and it has been shown to have a relatively good ability to learn colours.

The Hummingbird Hawk-moth is distributed throughout the northern Old World from Portugal to Japan, but is resident only in warmer climates (Portugal, Spain, Germany, Italy, Greece, Turkey, North Africa, and points east). It is strongly migratory and can be found virtually anywhere in the hemisphere in the summer. However it rarely survives the winter in northern latitudes (e.g. north of the Alps in Europe, north of the Caucasus in Russia, etc.).

Moths in the Hemaris genus of the family Sphingidae are known as "hummingbird moths" in the US, and "bee moths" in Europe, which sometimes causes confusion between this species and the North American genus.

Hello Anghel,

a brilliant capture of this hawk moth in flight.
Just the proboscis is shown with high sharpness.
The composition of the picture is very attractive.

Pacat, ca insecta nu este clara. Am facut si eu citeva poze despre aceasta specie, nu este deloc usor, sa faci o poza perfecta....

A brilliantly executed capture of a hawkmoth in flight and a pretty thistle flower Anghel, the blurry wings provide a good effect of motion and that OOF BG is simply perfect for a fine composition. TFS indeed!

Vad ca ai gasit si tu bestia! Si eu am facut cateva sute de cadre ca sa obtin ceva ok, dar a merita. Poate daca utilizai flashul reusai sa ingheti insecta mai bine..

Hi Anghel,
Outstanding inflight shot of this great looking Hummingbird Hawk-moth and you have freezed this moment with skill and timing. That extended proboscis looks awesome and I like the way it attacks the flower. Excellent lighting, DOF, POV and composition.

Buna Anghel,

Nu este usor sa fotografiezi aceasta insecta aflata in zbor. Imi place cum ai reusit sa redai trompa incolacita a fluturelui. Lumina intensa ti-a permis o buna redare a culorilor.

Very nice image of this moth, looks like an insect humingbird because its feding behavior. I like composition and BG. A pity thistle flower left petals are on the pic edge.
