GOLDFINCH: Goldfinch Alpha to the base. Do you hear me ?
THE BASE: Yes Goldfinch Alpha, we hear you.
GOLDFINCH: We just past the snowy hills.
THE BASE: Position confirmed.
GOLDFINCH: The target is under us. Requesting permission to attack. I repeat, the target is under us, requesting permission to attack.
THE BASE: Permission granted.

Of coarse the Golden Squadron is the Goldfinches flock and the target is the field with seeds under they.

If someone will ask me to show him my best bird image ... this is it my friends. I shoot this 1 day before Christmas 2008. I returned to that place almost every day from my vacation but I never saw the flock again.

This image is somehow closer in conception by my favorite bird picture made by a romanian photographer. I refer to the Migration by Mircea Costina. The bird images in flight having snowy mountains or hills as background are "my type" of images. However this kind of images are very rare.
Sadly on my image I had to make a compromise and cut a part of the beautiful snowed hills, that the birds to be bigger. I'm aware that not even on the 800 pixels size image you can't see much details of the birds, thats why I also made a 1280 pixels version (WALLPAPER)
click on the image to see it in fullsize

I have more pictures of this flock with sky background and a lateral angle of birds, or landing on the seeds field (very similar to this capture of Raptorman). I will probably present those in the future.

- Of course this was captured using manual focus.
- I was wet on my feet when capture this, after 6 hours of walking on the snow.
- This was shoot from like 3.5 meters above the field level. The way I got there will always remain a secret :D

Very interesting. Quite a sight! Gary

TFS!

Hi Anghel!

I can understand that this is your favourite bird image. It's absolutely superb and surprising. I have never seen that bird before and the fact to see a large group flying together is magnificent. The effect of those coloured spots in the air is superb and so well seen. Congratulations!

Kind regards

Hi Anghel,
beautiful picture of this Golden squadron, i like the large group flying lighted from the warm colour tones, wonderful OOF BG.
TFS. Best regards.

Very good shot with nice colours. Fancy idea. Well done

Amazing nature phaenomena photo, it blows me off.

Toate cele bune, Zoltan

Hi Anghel,

What a fantastic and unusual picture! I can't believe you managed to capture so many Goldfinches at one time. They stand out so well against the sky with their wonderful colors. A rare sight and you captured it perfectly. I love the dialogue in your notes!

I havent seen it, fantastic moment!

I like your note very much, Anghel. It is useful and hilarious :).
I saw your larger version of this image and liked it very much.
Of course, the image of Mircea is slightly better than yours, mainly because of the larger size of birds and his point of view.
The flock of birds looks really beautiful in your picture.
Well done and TFS.
