[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was busy shooting a different fly when something like two flies coupled together flight out of the grass and landed a few meters away. I first believed that they are two flies "making love". But when when I got closer I had a surprise.
The yellow fly didn't kiss the green fly on the neck, but actually it's was sucking it's juice from the neck. The green fly was still living when I shoot this. It was trying to escape from time to time but the yellow fly introduced it's body between those two sticks like in a guillotine.

I used a ring flash with -1 Exp compensation and I shoot handheld. The magnification was maximum (1.4:1)

I think that the yellow one is Yellow Dung Fly (en.) male.

I'm not sure about the green one.
acording to wikipedia it may be Chrysomya rufifacies (lat.)

Hi Angel

perfect capture of this real vampire!
great colors, as the sharpness and a perfect light that improves the objects and made visible many and stunning details of the insects.

Anghel, this is the best action shot I have ever seen on TN and I am being honest about it.
'The Kiss of Death' comes as another caption to my mind, even though your 'Vampire' is also perfect.
The eyes of the two flies are totally different. The yellow one, the apparent killer, has the eyes of a normal Fly. The blue one, on the other hand, has bulbous round eyes bulging out in the picture, as if in the throes of death.
Nature reveals certain secrets which are hard to believe and your picture portrays that assertion.
The image is technically superb with tremendous focus, magnificent details and life-like natural colours.
You deserve to be congratulated for this outstanding work.
Best regards.

Buna Anghel,

Aceasta este o noua fotografie cu o rezolutie si calritate excelente. DOF-ul foarte bine ales face ca ambele insecte sa poata fi clar vazute. De asemenea culorile sunt foarte bine reproduse.

THF si toate cele bune,

Salut Anghel,
Foarte frumos prins momentul, detalii extraordinare, culori superbe, foarte sharp si un bokeh impecabil. Felicitari.

Salut Anghel!

As shot taken in Romania it must be related to vampires :-) Agree with Ram - it is one of best action shots I've ever seen and first one with this yellow fly. It looks really scary, especially after reading your note about smaller fly still alive. Quality is superb.

hello Anghel

Hello Anghel,
This one is a superb shot. Mating flies I have seen, but not this kind of picture. And also this is the first time I am seeing a yellow Dung Fly. You have recorded the moment with excellent sharpness and details. Good perspective that shows the "kiss of death", as Ram Sir puts it.:)
Excellent use of ring flash.

Bonsoir Anghel,

Very impressive closeup. Extrem sharpness, high magnification, perfect exposure including flash fill. Close-up photography seems to have no secrets for you. Congratulation for this nice work.
