Geographic Range

African lions (Panthera leo) live in most of sub-Saharan Africa except in desert and rainforest habitats. Lions were exterminated from South Africa and they remain only in Kruger and Kalahari Gemsbok National Parks. Lions once ranged throughout southwest Asia and north Africa. Asiatic lions (P. l. persica) belong to the single remaining subspecies in this region. Once roaming from Greece to central India, Asiatic lions persist in the Gir forest of northwest India.

Habitat

African lions live in plains or savanna habitat with a large prey base (mostly ungulates) and sufficient cover available. In these optimal habitats, lions are the second most abundant large predator, after spotted hyenas Crocuta crocuta. Lions can also live, with wider ranges, in most habitats except in tropical rainforests and in deserts. Lions can live in forested, shrubby, mountainous, and semi-desert habitats. They are capable of living at high altitudes. There is a lion population in the Bale Mountains of Ethiopia at 4,240 m.

Asiatic lions live in scrubland and teak forest in the small Gir Forest preserve of India.

Hi Eddie,
It's a beautiful shot, fantastic detail, great light, colour and perfect exposure. Beautifully framed, perfect DOF with no fall-off on the Lioness at all, excellent. The BG looks a bit strange though, there is a halo effect around the lioness' head.

This portrait is exceptionally sharp and well exposed. The details are amazing. The eyes captivating. One can always see captive lions by their absolutley untouched beauty. Excellent work.

Hello Eduard , A Beautifull portret from the lion ,great details eyes colours pov bg very good ,Nice Weekend Teunie .

She's a gorgeous animal, and you've captured her beautifully. The composition and lighting are perfect. I see the halo just at the top of her head, and by the ear on the right, but I might not have if it hadn't been pointed out. I'm wondering though if it's a sign that you altered the background? I think it was a good decision if you did, but I'm curious.
