[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Coots are blissfully easy to identify, being entirely charcoal grey apart from the white bill and facial shield. The juvenile is browner with a mostly white neck and face but never has the white under-tail of a Moorhen. Coot chicks are engagingly ugly like an old woman whose orange dye is causing her hair to fall out.

Breeds on the edges of lakes, ponds and rivers. Winters on large lakes, reservoirs and estuaries.




A very common resident of freshwater habitats in most parts of Britain, except north-west Scotland and some of the islands. In winter large flocks congregate on lakes and reservoirs, with many continental immigrants adding to the numbers.

Hi Lenka, I find Coots are quite hard to photograph on the water as they are always on the move and their white bill and facial shield re usually too bright.
So you've managed well here. Good capture, TFS
