Lasiomata petropolitana - family Nymphalidae (former Satyridae).

I've found this wonderfull butterfly in High-Tatra Natinal Park - near the Polish border. It looks like the Erebia species but in my opinion it's much nicer.

The butterflies wingspan is about 40 mm. All the butterflies I've seen in Spruce forests, all af them are rather shy so it's not easy to make a picture with my camera - I have to go close with distance 40-50cm.

The butterflies flies in hot summer time: June and July. The caterpilars eats different types of grass.

Nice colors and details.

Hi Christoper,
Nice picture with good colors and DOF, but on the composition front, was it intentional to include that dry flower to the left of the butterfly? i would have put more space in the direction that the butterfly is looking into,
Look into the worshop.let me know whether you like it!

Czesc Krzysiek!
Fantastyczna 'zdobycz'. Bardzo ladne, nasycone kolory, dobra kompozycja i ciekawa poza motyla. W moich stronach raczej rzadki okaz.

I agree with Goutham; cropping out would improve an otherwise excellent shot. Well done - colours are wonderful

Good shot and nice angle. Maybe could have done with a touch of sharpening before posting. Well done.

Hello Chris,
lively shot of that shy and quick moving species.
Very fine naturalistic colours. The focus seems to be spot on. Beautiful light with well shaping shadows.
Pleasant and well describing contribution!
Thank you! Best regards,

Hallo Christopher,
I like good shots, in particular of animals which are rare and not so common, like this L. petropolitana. Sometimes, it would be nice to take the picture from a different angle (see the critique of goutham-ramesh), but this is not always possible due to vegetation and a possible own shadow 'thrown' onto the butterfly ... then flying off. Markings of right wings are clear and even the scaling is visible.

Not an easy shot Christoper,
the composition is well taken, the dof is very good but personal I think that the pov can be done bvetter, veryt good shot and good job anyway.
