Hi all!

I don't want to be arrogant and pretend that my picture is worth an emerald, it's just that I couldn't help thinking at this gemstone when I looked at this marvellous river and its surprising colours.

It occures that I tell friends on TN that I prefer somehow dark or at least cloudy skies to deep blue (and boring) ones. Pictures like this one show at best why. The light conditions were quite "bad", the sky was grey, but sometimes we could feel the sun that tried to break through. I love these light conditions, because they provide naturally saturated colours and delicate contrasts.

You see here the river Sava, just before it flows into the Lake Bohinj in the Triglav National Park. We were just back from a hiking tour to the chutes of this river that were very impressive due the heavy rainfalls. The green and emerald like colour of the river at this part of its course is mainly due to the reflections of the surrounding trees and the grass, but also to the quality and texture of the ground. The stones also were covered with green algae.

I dedicate this marvellous jewel to my wife. She was so delighted to look at these colours... At least, once in my life, I have offered her an... emerald!

Kind regards

Hi Markus , you have made your wife happy . This is a unusual shot of the river, showing some great detail and colours. every shade of green as you say this time the light has been good to you. the river looed fast in the middle. TFs.

Hello Markus,
Very delightful colouration on this river with the special green, so clean and clear indeed!
you had achieved well with good exposure and focus in this shot in excellent sharpness and much details!
well done and many thanks for the sharing

Hi Markus,

You seem to be in the middle of the river to shot the colours in their true tones. Imagery being a subtractive art, cropping the bushes out of the frame also adds up to the serenity of the place. Liked the note.

Well, what will you offer her when you visit the clear spring waters that sparkle like diamonds? Just a thought!

Superb colours! I know just what you mean about reflected colours.
I like the way the river seems to pick up speed as your eyes move into the shot!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Dear Markus,
Very well taken POV for Sava river at Bohinj. The water is crytal clear against greenish reflexion of hanging tree leaves with algae pouring emrald green color into it ! However you could have taken some more of trees by looking up few degrees to give us a better the depth of river course. In totality, a great photograph with information & a dedicated note to your wife :)

You apply your same view, which you spoke so well of to me today in critique, in your landscape of eh riverbed and water..and of course the deeply and wonderfully added and well saturated colours make it dream-scape.

Hello Markus,

the river has beautiful colours and are clean and clear indeed.
Good dedication to your wife.

Hi Marcus

I agree with you - sometimes diffuse light is much better than sunshine. Lovely shot showing the green waters - was there any limestone in the area? - it often results (though a number of factors) in green waters like these.

Hello Markus,
This is a beautiful and interesting colour of the River Sava in overcast weather. The appreciation of colour is very individual but we experienced the same river under a blue sky where it was transformed into a most wonderful turqoise colour. The light plays mysterious tricks on nature as is particularly noticeable on water, snow and 'greens'.
Many thanks and kind regards, Ulla

Hi Markus

Sorry for being a bit late...i was on a long hike yesterday and i was quite tired :)

This is a very beautiful and another original presentation from you!
The water here looks wonderful and the colors it results in are indeed amazing!
I also like the composition that you opted for here - with a down-pointing POV and a great perspective. The rocks in the FG really add a lot to the scene and also create a sort-of a natural border for the picture.
Lovely work!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Markus,
a well composed shot, making good use of that emerald colour with very good clarity and 'diffused' light...not a patch of blue sky in site ;o)

Lieber Markus,

oups! pts demain!

The colours are quite unique, yes, as you say, like an emerald. I can't say I have seen running water this colour before. I have seen stagnant green muddy pools, but not in this brilliant colour.
It's a super green image all over

Hello Markus,

I really like the emerald colour here. I guess it is not only reflection from trees, the algae and bacteria in the water may also be the reason.
Well done. TFS

Dear Markus,
thanks for your view on my pandanus shot. Really appreciate it.
This shot is very normal but it is very special. I dont know whether I can produce something like this.
anyway it is really natural, like the one that we see in life. the greenish and its hues are lovely.
Thinking about it, your note is very interesting too. You have the flair of connecting the ideas with the picture in a very coherent manner. Well linked and well presented in physical and visual views with great impact, and also psychological exploration in looking at the elemnts of photography.
Well done, Sir. I will always like your style.
