A Red-necked Nightjar (Caprimulgus ruficollis) is at outside of Doņana National Park, Spain. (September 2008) This was a very tame individual and i was alone at that moment. That means a lot of time for photography. I even used a 150 mm macro lens and sometimes i was close enough to touch it. However i was lying on a dirt road for quiet long and noticed by residents as "a man is dead on the road near his car-" (imagine at night, a car with the lights on and driver door is open with a man lies on the road-it must be scary that i remember a car stopped behind me and after some seconds drove reverse!:) After 15 minutes while i was still taking photos with various settings, police arrived. Curiously they started to walk towards me, the "dead man". Suddenly i crawled backwards and said them with a mysterious gruffly tone "DO NOT GET TOO CLOSE TO ME!" Two police officers were shocked with movement of the dead man and he was even speaking! ) but they did what i said to them. (probably paralyzed!) Then, I walked to them and first showed the photos and then the bird itself which was still sitting carelessly in front of the car. They shocked more when i said "i came from Turqia to see this bird" We spent 10 minutes with the cops talking and laughing and they decided everything is ok about our relationship with nightjar, so they left us alone... Here is one memory shot from that beauty which i will never forget :)

Hello Emin,
You are very fortunate to have found this beautiful specimen sitting along the road. I can imagine the fright the people must have had as they saw you lying on your stomach as if you had just gotten hit by a car or worse.
This is an outstanding image of a bird I have been wanting to photograph up close for a long while. The detail is spectacular and colors so beautiful. With a shutter speed of only 1/30 of a second you did an excellent job of steadying the camera.
I see you did not use a flash, so I assume this was taken with the lighting from your headlights alone. I must say your white balance was set perfectly as the colors are vivid yet natural. Wonderful eye contact and you even captured some catchlight. Superb work and great story!!

Excellent and dificult shot with great history.

Indeed eyes are 2 points of car lights. Very good job.

Hello Emin- A beautiful movie ended with a beautiful story! I like the way you have describe your experience. Excellent details of this Nightjar with natural colour. I can see 2 lights in its eye. Thanks for sharing. Regards- Srikumar

great closeup, TFS Ori

Most beautiful dear Emin
Photo info says this is without using flash? I guess that's why the eyes are so beautiful dark, or did you use an externa flash away from the camera
It's a great picture and I guess the two catchlights are the car's lights

Great work.Hats off to you for such effort to capture this beautiful Nightjar.
