Polistes
WASP
Wasp (from Latin: vespa). Insects himenópteros winged with sting. They can live in solitary form or in group. They differ from the bees in which they do not lose his sting on having stung and not to produce honey. Wasps exist without sting, these do not puncture and have the blue or greenish eyes.
These black and yellow wasps construct to nests of paper in form of ball in attics or low earth. They use the sting quickly, causing panic in people when it appears in search of sweet foods. In order to make the paper with that they make the nest, the common wasps chew fibers of the dead wood and form a paste. A single queen begins to create the nest, but soon she yields the increasing work to a number of workers. The nests can lodge up to 5,000 workers and have a diameter of 50 cm. The workers die in winter, but new queens survive until the following spring. The American yellow wasps, become related with this wasp, live in similar form. |
