The Black Stork Ciconia nigra in Luxembourg
The Black Stork bred for the first time in Luxembourg in 1993. The species was recorded only a few times before 1920 and was totally absent between 1920 and 1960. From 1966 the number of records began to rise and the first summering birds were recorded in 1985. The breeding population is now considered between 4 and 7 couples. The breeding area is restricted to the middle and northern parts of the country. So far, the species bred 17 times, with an average of 3,17 young leaving the nest. Between 10 and 12 couples have their feeding grounds at least partly in Luxembourg. The colonisation of Luxembourg is mainly due to the increase of the population in some Baltic countries and to the fact that the species is finding good breeding and feeding habitats in Ardennes-Eifel region.

Hi Tom,
Black Stork is a good model. This capture is also great with excellent POV, composition. Great details and sharpness. Eye contact, light and notes very nice.
I couldn't see them in Tarifa. You may have a special place in there. Maybe my next visit.

Hello Tom,

It is always difficult to capture in flight shots. And you have manged that quite well. Perfect timing to show the beautiful position of wings. The tonality of black birds are always tough to capture & you did it perfectly even under the wingspan without losing much on the eye/beak. Really Commendable!

This bird is very rare. I saw only once although here are his nests in the old forests.

Hello Tom,
It's a well composed image, nice POV.
Very hard to expose the dark plumage of the underside correctly, especially with this B&W combo. Perhaps more DOF/faster s-speed, or both would've produced more detail?
I would've used ISO 400 with the 20D.
