Hello everybody. THIS IS A LARGE POST, so click on the photo.

As I already posted this scene multiple times with plenty of info about both predator and predated, this time I wanted to dedicate this post to a machine :)

Yes, my Sony F717 has been a very good camera for more than 30000 shots, taken in awful conditions, just what fungi like so much... rain, humidity, dust, mud, in the ground, etc. The only issue was the defect on the sensor, but I must forgive sony people as they fixed it with no cost 2,5 years after the purchase, when it suddenly died.

Maybe the quality is not the best, the blues are difficult to manage and the results have a "postprocessed" look. The focus is slow, and some issues limited.

Nevertheless it is a "all road beast", it is so confortable and well designed that when you get used to it photography becomes really FUN!
Light is easy to control even with flash, the swiveling body allows taking photos in any position you would imagine, and the Zeiss lens quality specially is macro mode has no discussion.

Take into acount that the F717 was introduced in the market in the summer of 2002, 5 years in affordable digital technology is a lot of time. That is why I wanted to make this small tribute to this camera, that has still a remarcable place in our photo equipment bag.

Hope you like!

Taken handheld with the flash in low level, and with a paper hankerchief tied on it. The distance to the subjet is about 30 Cm.

Hello Felipe and Cristina,
This is an excellent and very well-timed capture of this lovely damselfly with the Mayfly very clearly shown too. Excellent DOF and fine colours too. A very fine composition!
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

What an amazing capture this is, congratulations! This is a great action shot with excellent details, colors, POV and composition. I don't think that it looks too much processed and this is a nice tribute to your old equipement :) Well done and TFS,

A fantastic LP Felipe. Are you sure you're not the spokesperson for Sony Spain? :)
You remind one in your description that photography should be fun, bravo. This is a prime example of one who knows their camera like the back of their hand..Expert PP completes perfect execution & technique. Always a pleasure & Very well done!

Hola a ambos,
Otra delicia de foto ( y supongo que el insecto lo debe ser para la libélula, ja, ja). Es impactante la calidad, como siempre sucede en vuestras fotos publicadas. De 10.

R.I.P. brave 717 :-)

It is amazing how good photos this cam [with small support of Felipe ;-)] was taking! This one is also great. Sharp in all areas, clear, with very good DOF and not bad at all colours. Sometimes older technology seems to be better than new one. Smells like conspiracy of global corporations :-)

Amplia profundidad para una bella y diferenre composición. Saludos.

Hi Filipe!!!

Nice to see you back on TN my friend! I hope you and Cristina are alright and i hope to see you around here more often :)
I also saw that you've poseted a nice fungi picture not long ago (probably i missed it that day when it was posted) but i had a quick look through your galery and i saw you were quite busy posting in the days i was gone.
The particular image attracted my attention, not only because of it's gret subject, but because of the title!
I definitely think your old Sony deserves such an homage, and probably my old Canon S2, too. I took only about 17-18000 shots with it, but i haven't had a single problem with it and just like you, i've dragged it around with me in sand, mud, rain, wind and snow (-20 degrees with factor) and all sorts of other horrible conditions and it still kept going :)

As for the picture itself, yes, i know the "actors", but i an't get enough of them!
Both Calopteryx and Epheropterans are splendid insects and to see mother nature at work with them as subjects is always impressive.
Your result here is impeccable in means of sharpness and level of details in both the small photo as well as the LP. The colors are wonderful and superbly saturated and the DOF that you used is perfect for the shot - keeping everything important into excellent focus.
Not to forget, the "extramundi" trade-mark flash management that just brings out the best of all the subjects! ;)
